Hey James,
I concur with your assessment of pan flow.
Pretty nice for a free panner.
There is a tutorial on Youtube that explains the details.
Re: Apogee Soft Limit
I read the manual and it seems useful for subtle transient limiting.
Anything beyond small limiting will lead to distortion...
But that can be cool too.
Definitely worth the price...
All is well

Exponential Audio PhoenixVerb $19 till July 30

Post by James Steele »

Exponential Audio PhoenixVerb is $19 until end of July. Normally $99. Only caveat here though is there's no clear answer as to whether this is going to get updated to have native Apple Silicon support. It's just called "compatible" meaning it uses Rosetta 2 on M1 Macs. So it's roll of the dice I guess...

That's such an important note. I'm finding as I look at various software deals rolling around, I suspect some software is being sold as an end-of-cycle sale.

It's always just a guess as to whether or not the developer will update for AS/M1/M2.

I'm just as suspicious as you are about those things. It feels like it could be one last cash grab for EOL products. Case in point: every day in my Facebook feed I see this paid ad by Lexicon for 50% off their official software plug ins. But there's no mention anywhere as to whether they will become AS native. So, in my best lawyerly wording, I posted one of the first comments: "Are these plugs-- or WILL these plugs-- be native for Apple Silicon at some point?" For weeks, if Lexicon does indeed have a social media person, they have not responded to my comment, nor similar comments from others on that same post. Users are not buying unless a company makes a public commitment to NATIVELY support Apple Silicon. Don't tell me about "compatible." When I finally can afford to pop for an M1 Mac (probably a Mac Studio with M1 Max) I don't want to hear about running Rosetta 2. The goal is to go all native and I'll probably shed the plug-ins that done get updated.

Oh, to follow up I did drop the $20 on PhoenixVerb. I'd been working a bit lately and had a little extra jingle in my pocket for making a side bet I guess you could say. What I suspect might happen, is what happened with me when I got MacDSP Retro Pack on a blowout deal. It wasn't abandoned, but they hooked you in with the cheap price and shortly after, they announced version 7 which was native, and a *paid* upgrade from version 6. So even though it wasn't full price, they got to hit me up twice in a short period of time. :D

An earlier post on this site stated that none of the EA reverbs were going to work over Monterey except PhoenixVerb and only because it did already. That's not the case anymore.

https://support.izotope.com/hc/en-us/ar ... le-silicon

iZotope is singing a different tune lately: Stratus and Symphony are going to be AS Native while all the rest were updated to run over Monterey and Rosetta 2.

iZotope bundles these in so many of their current packages that the heat was on to stop bundling reverbs that just didn't work for those buying cutting edge hardware and apps — you know, like us.

As they keep this up, they may well feel the heat to take the rest of the EA 'verbs Native. Watch that url for the latest news.

It's free and works with Kontakt Player, so you don't have to have the full version of Kontakt to use this.

IK Multimedia MODO Drum SE $39.99 ($110 off)

Post by James Steele »

Audio Plugin Deals has MODO Drum 1.5 SE on sale for next couple of weeks. Normally $149… now $39.

https://audioplugin.deals/modo-drum-1-5 ... ultimedia/

The difference between the full version which is $299 and SE is the number of kits. SE has 5 kits. Full version has 13. There’s also a free CS version that has just 1 kit.

IKM is a bit unusual in that reseller sale prices are often unavailable on their own web site — but that's only part of it. When you register your product, you earn JamPoints and crossgrade/upgrade pricing is like you paid the full price. IKM crossgrades require a $99 purchase of any of their software in the past—this will count as $149. I have taken major advantage of this over the years.

Fluffy Audio has FREE Koto library for Kontakt

Post by James Steele »

Just got an email in my in box from Fluffy Audio. They have released a free Koto library. You can get it here:

https://www.fluffyaudio.com/shop/khim/

From the email notice:
We've just released RARITIES #3: KHIM, a FREE Koto library for Kontakt 5 (and above).

The history of the Thai instrument Khim meets many countries: first Persia, then China, then brought to Thailand and finally introduced to Lao and Cambodia. It derives from the Persian santur and is similar to the hammered dulcimer or cimbalom. The Khim is made up of fourteen string triplets, each triplet composing what is called a note. It’s played with two flexible bamboo sticks with soft leather beater at the tips to produce a soft tone, the sound is brilliant but also very engaging.

649f44ff-dbf5-a01a-4e90-bf944e85a70c.png (263.67 KiB) Viewed 1117 times

Features:

5 Articulations
3 Mic Positions
2.7 GB installed (compressed in NCW format)
1554 Samples
24 bit / 48 kHz stereo
Filter cutoff controlled by modwheel (Sustain and Stops articulations)
Dynamic volume controlled by modwheel (Tremolos and Rolls articulations)
Velocity Control Curve
12 Reverb Presets
UPDATE: This is a GREAT little free library. It has articulations and a version that lets you make the tone brighter with the Mod Wheel. Also, it has full light guide support on the Komplete Kontrol series of keyboards, EXCEPT for some reason when running in the standalone Kontakt app. I wrote to the developer about that. But nice sounding freebie!!

(MODO Drums) $39 is a good deal, but as mentioned, there is a free version. I’ve set that up in my template with a slightly customized DP MIDI Device Drum Map. It’s only one kit, but is quite complete — about 50 sounds — sounds fine for most day to day stuff, and there’s a lot you can do with it. I’d encourage trying that out before buying.

Yep... free version has one kit. The $39 version has give. I guess I'll go install the free CS version. I nearly did last night, but didn't know if it would be a hassle to install the next version up over it.

Huh?

Using the latest IK Product Manager, only one version should show up on the Software page. All kits and versions will show up on the Sounds page. It may take a long time for everything to download properly, however. Note that it should download Software automatically upon Registration. Usually, you'll download the Sounds manually afterward — the kits will be listed, however.

I save the instrument downloaders to a remote drive so that, if I need to reinstall, I can run them again instead of paying IKM a $25 re-download fee after 180 Days.

Here are some screen shots. Note whether they are from Software or Sounds.

Haven't tried it but it looks to me like other CS IKM things. If I click on any Drum set other than "Studio" I get a link to buy an upgrade.
