VEP7, DP and Catalina

This problem relates apparently to VEP 7, not DP, but I'm hoping others may have seen this and figured out what happeneing:
I recently updated from Mohave to Catalina. Since then VEP7's behavior has changed in 2 ways:
1. It crashes multiple times a day while I'm not interacting with its GUI.
2. The interface is really slow when changing between instruments, or if I hit the dot key to unsnap a window. AND, to that point, sometimes, if I hit the dot key twice in a row, it'll crash.
