Compatible Firewire PCI cards for MOTU 828 mk11
Hi
i just built a new DAW with an ASUS A7N8XE Deluxe motherboard.
Does anyone have a list of firewire PCI cards I can install so I can use my MOTU 828mk11 with it. I know that it needs to be a TI or Lucent chipset but i can't find any cards with that chipset,]
thanks for the help

if memory serves me, i'm pretty sure my texas instrument chipset firewire card is the adaptec fireconnect 4300. In control panel it only shows texas instruments OHCI compliant blah blah blah etc.. so I can no longer retrieve the actual manufacturer name... however if you go to adaptec's site, click on the fireconnect 4300, enlarge the picture, save it hd, and zoom in on the chip you can also see the little state of texas (;
what I did when i was in the store, was make the person open the box so i could see the chip.
hope that helps... perhaps someone else can confirm.

thanks for your reply,
i think the problem is that the new adaptec 4300 cards are NOT fitted with TI chipsets anymore
i've seen two cards since this post, one is Miglia Alchemy and ADS Tech Basic DV Pro , they are both designed for digital video editing but are essentially just firewire cards with dv editing software
any thoughts??
thanks

I am using the MOTU 828mkII with a UNIBRAIN FIREBOARD 400 BLUE
Check out: www.unibrain.com
I was amazed at how much better my laptop is doing with their PCMIA firewire interface for my two 828mkII's.

Hi, that's the same board I run, but I'm 424(PCI).skapegrace wrote:i just built a new DAW with an ASUS A7N8XE Deluxe
Just wondering why you didn't mention the onboard FW (guessing it didn't work)? Someone else might need to know.
Take Care

I would go with the ADS board. As an earlier poster noted, and I have found as well, that when you buy an Adaptec card, you have guarantee as to what FW chipset was used -- even between different boards with the same model number. The ADS stuff is inexpensive, and consistently uses the TI chipset.
