Slow bounce to disc

Post by Saxplayerz »

Dp is terribly slow bouncing to disk on my machine.
Any way to speed it up? It’s nearly real time.

Just a shot in the dark, but you don’t have anything like a UAD card/satellite or anything that offloads processing to its own DSP? I know, for example, that in the case of UA plugs, any project with plugs like that in it will slow to real-time or just a little bit faster.

I have started a TechLink with MOTU about this, latest response was: 'Thanks for the info. We're looking into something which may be related to this.'
Fingers crossed.

Not enough information. Sample rate? Bit depth? How many tracks? Any “look ahead” plugins? Are you rendering VIs? Are you converting from one format to another? Are you bouncing to mp3?

All make a difference, especially bounce to mp3 which can be very slow.

The three things that slow down a bounce in my experience are:

1. Bounce to mp3, as Mike mentioned

2. Small buffers (yes, large buffer settings bounce faster)

3. Izotope RX plugins like noise reduction and de-reverb.

Hmmmm…. Hadn’t considered buffer settings. Thanks for that tip.

I noticed that when I went to 32 bit float, BTD slowed down for me — not unexpected and not an issue on short projects. Long files, though, it will be worth it to increase the buffer first.

The iZotope plugs you mention have ‘look ahead’ functionality that slows things down.

I’m not sure if this will help but.
I mix in real time and then bounce the 2 track mix with EQ and compression. But it’s only a 2 track
mix so it goes quickly.
You might try just bouncing 1 track and see if it’s fast or slow and then try 2,3 and so on maybe you could figure out if a certain track is slowing things down.
Just a thought .
