I really like Sektor, but be forewarned it's MPE support has been broken for more than a year now. I actually don't know if it's evere worked, since It's not worked since I bought it over a year ago. Initial Audio recently updated some of their other plug ins, so hopefully a fix is coming soon. Beyond that it's a nice lightweight synth with a great GUI that's M1 compatible already for $14.
M2 Studio Ultra, RME Babyface FS, Slate Raven Mti2, NI SL88 MKII, Linnstrument, MPC Live II, Launchpad MK3. Hundreds of plug ins.

Yeah. For $15 I can probably live without the MPE support. Maybe they’ll fix it someday.

Cherry Audio "Eight Voice" - $19

Post by James Steele »

https://store.cherryaudio.com/bundles/e ... ynthesizer

From the page:
Eight Thunderous Voices
Our most ambitious instrument to date, Cherry Audio’s Eight Voice polyphonic synthesizer meticulously emulates the immense sound of the Oberheim® Eight Voice, one of the world’s rarest and most desirable vintage instruments. Predating modern microprocessor control, its eight independent dual-oscillator voice modules could be challenging to program. Cherry Audio Eight Voice’s unique Voice Link controls allow simple and powerful grouping of voice module controls, eliminating individually setting each module's controls when homogenous poly sounds are desired. Focus buttons allow instant enlargement of any section of the user interface, making sound programming a breeze, and massively flexible keyboard assign modes enable endless mono and poly keyboard zoning and layering options. All in all, we’ve transformed the original’s daunting user interface into a fun and inviting mondo poly synth experience.

Above all, Eight Voice knocks it out of the park with an incredibly accurate and huge sound, courtesy of award-winning synth designer, Mark Barton’s (MRB) circuit-correct recreation of the magnificent Oberheim state-variable filter. Eight Voice also includes a feature-packed eight-step “mini” sequencer, and high quality modulation delay and reverb effects. Cherry Audio’s Eight Voice is truly bursting with unique sound possibilities at an unbelievably affordable price!

Eight Voice Features:
  • Eight fully independent dual-oscillator voice modules
  • Oberheim® multi-mode filter emulation by award-winning synth designer Mark Barton (MRB)
  • Over 330 presets
  • Massively configurable mono and poly keyboard assignment modes
  • Independent key range settings for endless layering and zoning options
  • Super flexible Voice Linking for powerful voice control grouping
  • Focus buttons for instant enlargement of all areas of the user interface
  • Two separate poly assign buses for stacked poly patch creation
  • Additional LFO with six waveforms and tempo sync
  • Eight-Step Mini Sequencer with 1/2-step quantizer and tempo sync
  • Studio-quality reverb and mod delay with tempo sync
  • Full MIDI control and DAW automation for all controls
  • Eight Voice Synthesizer is available in AU, VST, VST3, AAX, and standalone formats.

I can't find any info on whether these, and other McDSP plugins other than APB will be updated to UB at some point. There seems to a lot of deeply discounted plugins these days. I don't know about McDSP's roadmap, but I know of at least one developer that's selling plugins they have no plans to update to M1 at huge discounts. ...looking at you iZotope (yes, i'm a bit disgruntled).

WAVDSP Magic Suite - Free (Except Magic Vocal $9.99)

Post by James Steele »

This is an interesting suite of plug-ins.

https://wavdsp.com/magic-suite/

They're all free except for Magic Vocal which their site lists for $19.99 but you can buy it for $9.99 at KVR Marketplace till 9am PST on April 14. Link is here:

https://www.kvraudio.com/marketplace/ma ... -by-wavdsp

Be forewarned, if you do decide to get Magic Vocal, I had an issue with the AU version where DP froze up and I had to use the VST2 version instead and that works fine. Magic Vocal also requires iLok authorization. It seems like a surprisingly useful plug as are the free ones in this suite.

The download links will take you to a different page where you have to download the "Magic Suite" installer which will install VST, VST3, AU and AAX versions of all the plugs including the Magic Vocal plug. There's no option to choose just the free plugs, so if you don't want to get Magic Vocal, you'll have to just delete it in all the various formats.

And, now $29 to upgrade this "free" plugin to UB. Not really impressed with McDSP about this. The v7 UB version of the collection costs $149, so it's still a good value, but I feel a little suckered.

Well, you called it. McDSP just announced Version 7 of their plugs. Cost to upgrade this bundle to V7 for UB is $69. So $29 + 69 is $98. The regular price for the bundle is now $149. So a $51 savings. Not that bad, but in a way not sure I'd have bought these at all originally unless they were that cheap. So either pony up another $69 or just let them expire. I guess I could use them under Rosetta 2 when I finally get a new Mac Studio, but the idea is to have everything be M1 Native.

Sigh... so much of my hardware and software is going to be end of life now.

UPDATE: What the heck... I just sent McDSP some of my cash. Sigh. 2022 is going to be an expensive year for Mac users.

Usually when companies upgrade plug-ins they offer a grace period that lets people who just purchased a product have the upgrade with no charge. I guess since we obtained our McDSP plug-ins at no or low cost we are not deserving of grace.

It looks that way. Especially if we got them at the bargain basement blowout deal. My big fear, as I said before, is that developers are going to use the M1 transition to push us into subscription. Speaking of which, I went to the UA site to get the native versions of my plugs and followed all the instructions and linked my iLok account, etc. and none of my plug ins showed as available for download in UADx format. Ugh.
