DP 10.13 crashing when opening plugins
So I have DP 10.13 running on Sierra on a Mac Pro tower with 16 gigs of RAM and 1 TB of hard disk...recording on an external 1 TB drive. This has been working fine for the last 2 years but the other day my plugins/VI's are starting to crash DP when I try to open them.
I forget the procedure to fix this problem, trash preferences? Which ones, can I keep my templates, or do I have to reinstall the entire program?
Thanks for your help...
Mike

Re: DP 10.13 crashing when opening plugins
Start DP with Shift key held. Close, try again.
If that fails, shut down Mac. Hold Shift key down as you boot in Safe mode. Shut down. Boot normally.
Sometimes one works while the other doesn’t. On rare occasions, I’ve had to do both.

Re: DP 10.13 crashing when opening plugins
Interesting when you do this. The plugins don't load, and plugin prefs show no plugins, which is expected. But when you create an audio track, the Mixer view shows no inserts in channel strip.

Re: DP 10.13 crashing when opening plugins
Thank you Mike, but I tried all that and it still crashes. Ozone 9 (stereo), SSL native channel strip v6, SSL native buss compressor v6, and UVI Workstation all crash DP 10.13 when I open them.
What do you think need to be my next move?
Thank you,
TnMike

Re: DP 10.13 crashing when opening plugins
So when I trash the DP prefs folder/files, do I reinstall a new DP as well, or just restart the existing DP?
Thanks,
TnMike

Re: DP 10.13 crashing when opening plugins
Well, I trashed all DP preferences and plist and still certain plugins crash DP. I guess I need to go to the next step, and I'm just guessing, which is reinstalling DP? I will make a copy of my template and my most recent "bundle" for routing.
If anyone can think of something else I need to try, please let me know?
Thank you,
TnMike

Re: DP 10.13 crashing when opening plugins
Two things that have been reported on this forum: First, creating a new User account in macOS and trying DP in that has worked from time to time. Tells you something has gone wrong with macOS. Second, there have been instances of corrupt templates, meaning a new template has to be created from scratch.

Re: DP 10.13 crashing when opening plugins
I didn’t say DP works. In fact, the audio engine doesn’t load. I should have written:
1) Start DP with Shift key held and wait till all the windows come up. Be patient.
2) Quit DP
3) Start DP normally
This is an old “Stupid Mac Trick” (if anyone remembers that column from MacWorld Magazine). This has worked for me more often than everything else combined. It rebuilds the paths to your plug-ins. Normally, when I have to run this, it’s after I’ve done a recent plug-in install or update and DP becomes unstable or a recent project won’t re-open at all.

You said it right the first time. It was easy to follow and worked like you said it would.mikehalloran wrote: ↑Sun Mar 20, 2022 6:24 pmI didn’t say DP works. In fact, the audio engine doesn’t load. I should have written:

I was just pointing out that DP seems to know there are no plugins, because it doesn’t give you any inserts to put them in.

Re: DP 10.13 crashing when opening plugins
I talked to MOTU tech support today and I think I found my problem.
I have a Mac Pro Tower (2010) running Sierra. On March 11, 2022 Sierra OS users got an update for "Device Support Update" (for IOS and iPad devices). It was after I made this small update that my problems began. Tech Support said they were getting calls with the same symptoms and the common factor was this update.
MOTU is going to check it out further.
Does anyone know how to reverse a small update like this? I'm hoping I can get everything back working again before this update.
Thanks,
TnMike
