Displaying bars/beats in movie window possible?

Post by Dragonwind »

I did some searching and didn't come up with the answer nor in the manual. I have DP11, was able to add streamers, but is there also a way to add bars/beats to the display?

The reason is for live use when I want to set up a large display for the other musicians. The streamers will be for their cues but the other info is necessary as well.

Thanks.

You could put up the Counter Window also (shift-J).

That is the way I do it too.

You can make it as big as you want also.

Only downside is trying to hide the last three digit part of the bars/beats display that shows "ticks", which is really annoying.

I made a blank custom-console to just over that up.

I wish there was an option to not display that.

One helpful thing is you can display markers in the Counter Window so you can can give a descriptive text position also.

Another annoyance with the big counter window is that if you only want bars/beats, and just check that as the primary display with no timecode or real-time, you get this huge amount of empty space on the left side of the window.

There is enough space there for probably 100,000 or more bars.

It does not resize based on the primary display, so when you put it on top of picture, it blocks way more screen-space than it needs to and you can't see picture very well.

I do sometimes have chunks that go into the thousands if we are tracking everything off of one collated cue made up of smaller cues (for speed's sake), but never tens or hundreds of thousands or millions!

Motu are you listening ???!!!

Please !!!

100,000 is probably lite. Not sure why they would pad the left side so heavily. I get the annoyance.

I actually looked for a third-party plugin that would display transport bars/beats, and tried a couple, but none of them worked well or at all.

I used to have a hardware box made by (Midiman?) that was a bars/beats display, but it would not do odd time-signatures, and then became useless with the modern change of frame-rates to 23.97 or whatever. Frame-rate should not have been an issue but it somehow was, though I can't remember why.

A company called Punchlight makes a hardware one now, though they are pretty pricey, so I am just sticking with all of that extra unused real-estate with MOTU's counter.

I wish the Motu counter-window had the option to not display ticks, and also would just resize itself as the bar-count increases.

I know that the HUI/MCU protocol supports bars/beats, so maybe some intrepid Arduino/Teensy user (i.e. person younger than my generation) out there will code a hardware one. I saw that the HUI/MCU protocol has been (implemented?) for Teensy. I've seen Teensy TC displays, but not bars/beats.
