Where is my MIDI CC1 info? RESOLVED

Post by maakera »

Hello!

Working with MIDI tracks to virtual instrument (Kontakt). Recording MIDI notes with live expression (dynamics) changes. I records fine, plays back fine, but now I need to do some adjustments to my recorded CC1 and I just can't find it! Not on the MIDI channel, not on the VI channel. On the VI channel I can INSERT this CC1 manually and then it reads this and when I delete the inserted MIDI data it plays back the originally recorded CC1, so it's still somewhere... but where?

Cheers!

Are you recording into clips? You can edit in the Clip Editor or unpack the clip.

Open the track in the Sequence Editor and the MIDI data lanes via the dropdown arrow on the left. If you don't see CC1, click the plus sign on the bottom lane and make a new lane with CC1.

I've noted that DP10.13 (version I'm currently using) does not display a name for CC11 data in the Sequence Editor; although I see names for all other CC types (Pitchbend, Breath Control, Modulation, etc.), where the CC11 label should be there is blank space. The CC11 Data is present and can be edited without issue.

Is it possible the OP is experiencing a similar issue, and that CC1 Data is present and editable, just unlabeled?

Make sure you haven't inadvertently checked the "Edit per note event" box at the bottom left. Now that DP supports MPE it distinguishes the two (per note vs per track) and only shows one at a time. Alternatively, did you record it as MPE? If so then you'll need to check that box in order to see it.

Odd. It's showing here (expression). There is a place to edit what shows up here in Continuous Data Preferences. Is that set properly? If you edit the names of the controllers there, that's what shows up in the SE and ME.

Alright! Got it, thanks a lot!!!
Yes, I am working with clips and now I am able to access/edit this data in clips edit window. And alternatively - if I unpack the clip, then I get the controller data from MIDI track's drop down menu in the Sequence Editor. The clips thing is kind of confusing for me sometimes - I remember having an issue not seeing clip's MIDI in Notation Editor. I don't know if it's still the same in DP11 - clips have to be unpacked to get the Notation Editor going.
