Play Cursor back to the original position ?

Is it possible for the Play Cursor ( somewhere in a song ) to come back to the original position when you press stop ? A keyboard command ?

There may be or at least should be an easier way to rewind to most recent playback start location.

One way, which is pretty clunky, is to turn on AUTO REWIND and before playback, click on the word START in the start field on the lower left of the counter section.

My main thing is that I've just gotten used to typing this sequence:
decimal point, bar-number
decimal point, 1 (beat number)
decimal point, 0 (tick number
enter

CONTROL-OPTION-PERIOD or CONTROL-OPTION-COMMA nudges the transport by whole measures, and that's pretty useful, too.

The easiest option would just be a new COMMAND = return to last playback starting point.

To go back to the beginning, press the 1 key. This also works during playback.

I think this is a good feature request candidate. DP just remembers the last stopped counter, and a simple command just returns there without turning any of the auto cycle stuff on.

Try this:

1. F1 “set memory start to counter “ before playing or recording
2. Numeric keypad 1 “rewind “ after stopping playback or recording sends cursor set in step 1 back to memory start point

They can be combined with Keystroke Maestro. I’ve used these so many times it’s automatic.

Keyboard Maestro could kobble together the right string of stuff to make it work, but if DP added a "jump-back-to-last-playback-start-counter" command, it would be much less messy.

I know the function, but I don't mean that.
For example, if I start in the middle of a song and stop whenever, I want the play cursor to go exactly where I started in the song.
In Logic Pro it is zero on my keyboard ( without memory buttons ! ): Once zero press stop the play cursor and once again the play cursor goes to where I started in the song.

I think the looping back you mention depends where the end of memory cycle is set. I don’t have this problem. I can, however” see your point if you’re using a small keyboard like a laptop. DP’s default command mappings assume use of an extended keyboard or a separate keypad. Think about adding one of these to save your veins :)

Yes, the looping back will happen exactly when the end of memory cycle is set. So if you hit stop before the end is reached, you won't have a problem. But if the end of the cycle is reached, playback will loop which may not be desired. The command says "set memory start to counter" but it should say
"set memory start to counter and turn on memory cycle"

But still, it is a needlessly cumbersome approach for something that doesn't need to be a mode-enable thing.

I have an Apple keyboard with an separate numeric section. The function keys have various tasks assigned like brightness, volume, play/pause, etc. But if I want to use them as function keys, I have to press and hold "fn" Nonetheless, when the neck blood balloon finally pops... :koolaid: (I'm disgusting). :vomit:

Memory Rewind on/off [8] plus Set Memory Start to Counter f1 does what you want more or less.
You have have Memory Rewind on then hit f1 where the counter is and it will rewind to that spot.

Yea, but if I had to do all that stuff every time before I hit play....

I know it's not that big of a deal. Before I hit play, I have to ask myself, "Will I need to come back to this play position again?" and if I think I might, I have to use both hands, RH holds "fn" LH presses F1. But it's both of those things, having to weigh if I need to store this starting point, and then having to use both hands (on my keyboard) to do it. Also, I don't want memory cycle on, I want AUTO REWIND on. So every time, I have to turn the former off and the latter on.

Another option (feature request) would be that pressing REWIND (which is really RTZ) pressing it once could take you to zero, and pressing it twice could take you to your most recent playback start location. That's quick and doesn't require any prep or thought.

If you set the start memory time with F1 and then use the commands go to memory start (ctrl-opt-C) and play from memory start (ctrl-opt-spacebar) it doesn't matter if memory cycle is on or off. You can reprogram those to be one key. I have them set for F11 and F12. Just another option.

It does matter, when the end of the cycle is reached it loops back. I don't want that. So an additional step of setting the end to some high number is required.
