Bite Volume and Gain
What is the difference between bite volume and bite gain?
When/why would you use one rather than the other?
If all bites on a track are about the same level and this level is very low and you need to bring it up, would it be better to:
- increase the bite volume of each bite?
- increase the bite gain of each bite?
- use Trim or another plugin as an insert on the track to do it?
- use the track fader?
Thanks for any pointers from a newbie,
Stan

Trim works quite well on tracks recorded at low levels.
Volume automation basically writes what level the track fader will be at.

bite gain is useful if you have a lot of different soundbites all at different levels...
it is also easier to pick up and shift around than automation
It's pretty much like the trim plugin function -
you can do lots of bites at the same time... selecting all on one channel is key commandable - and you can set a key for calling up the gain function so for me I find soundbite gain more convenient...
Bite volume is like the main automation faders but is easier to move around as it's tied to the bite - hence bite volume. of course any channel based automation will be added on as it passes thru the mixer

Yes I find bite gain to be efficient, but once you change it, hard to see which gain was applied.
Need to read detailed infos in soundbite window. A drag !
Do you use any other way to read it ?

That is the truth innit! The best way I have found is the detailed window- I have it as part of a consolidated window - this way it updates for each selected bite automatically - but seems a massive waste of screen real estate just for one measly number!!!!
why o why did't they put the info in the mini viewer in the top bar of the seq ediditor!!! ( it has name and in/out/duration and sync points )
go on let em know! blast a quickie off to suggestions@motu.com
whilst you're at it - could you back me up on adding a "trim" function?
add 3 db to selected bites? that would be great!!!
thanks

Fine martian !
I've posted to motu that suggestion of seq editor top-bar bite-gain display.
It could significatively improve my work flow.

Re: Bite Volume and Gain
Arise old thread?
In DP 10 there's now a little fader on each track which allows one to change that whole track's bite gain.
Can anyone tell me how to select ALL of those little faders, like for ALL tracks, all at the same time?
Thanks!

Re: Bite Volume and Gain
In classic fashion please allow me to reply to myself...
To accomplish this (i.e. multi-track bite gain select all functionality), it seems like one must select all tracks you desire to affect and then go to:
Audio > Bite Volume and Gain > Set Bite Gain
Enter a numeric value.
Everything you've selected will now have its bite gain affected.
As far as I can tell, one cannot do this with the little fader in the Sequence Editor and this saddens me.

Re: Bite Volume and Gain
I'm not in front of DP11 right now, but is it possible to use the key command for temporary tracks groups (t), to temporarily group selected tracks and raise the Bite Gain via the fader? It seems like if it's not possible it's a good feature request.
M2 Studio Ultra, RME Babyface FS, Slate Raven Mti2, NI SL88 MKII, Linnstrument, MPC Live II, Launchpad MK3. Hundreds of plug ins.
Re: Bite Volume and Gain
If you are willing to commit to an overall gain shift of multiple tracks, you can always use the Apply Plug-In command and use the Trim plug-in.

Re: Bite Volume and Gain
...or just turn down your master if applying to all tracks. Won't impact the sound quality, as DP runs on a 32 bit float.
Remember that changing bite gain will alter the impact of any dynamics plugin inserts.
