I use Mach5 flawlessly in my studio for everything it's been intended to do.

It's been great. Do I want the new one? Sure, but it doesn't stop me from using what I have.

I forgot to add that! M5 works fantastic for me. Have not used my outboard samplers since I got it. Frankly, I would rather wait for an upgrade than to be saddled (thre is that word again!) with a buggy product. M5 is quite stable in my stable. (Just cannot shake these equestrian analogies! - I'll just ave to ride it out).

I was able to sell my hardware sampler for the price of Mach5 too, so I didn't lose anything!

Actually I gained... My whole library is on my hard drive and I have instant access to all my sounds. No more messing around with CDs and waiting for things to load.

I DO wish that Mach5 was considered a little more of a standard like Kontact in order to purchase native libraries... I believe this stems from the Samples for Mach5 not being copy protected or something...

We don't have capital punishment on this side of the pond - but if we did they would be first in the queue!

I like you am happily using it as I didn't buy it based on imaginary upgrades, but I was responding to the question asked about why some people were getting all hot about it.

You have to admit it though it hasn't been a wonderful chapter for MOTU.

Now where's Cindy Sheehans phone number perhaps we can get a camp set up outside MOTU HQ - we could have horses too if you want MIDI.

Who knows what then was on the horizon that delayed the release further. I think MOTU is pretty smart and I'm sure they didn't mean to tease us...

I'm a bit confused by all this frustration and impatience for V2 of Mach Five, as it isn't clear to me whether it's coming from disgruntled current users of Mach Five V1, or fence-sitters like myself who are on the verge of needing to make a decision (not me, as I can wait, but I mean the angry posters here in this thread).

I purchased MachFive when it first came out, so Im not a fence sitter. What I've actually been hoping for with the Version 2 software is for some of the major bugs in this Version 1.2 software to be fixed. Problems like these...

Half of the samples that came with the program will not load...
I can get 4 or 5 seperate parts running at once, but after that MachFive crashes as an RTAS in Pro Tools...
MachFive will crash pretty much at the drop of a hat in Pro Tools.
I cannot drag samples into the sample edit window, when I try to do this, I get multiple drawings of the GUI in my window, and frankly dont know which of the GUI images to drag the sample into. And then Pro Tools will crash. And I have no real way to import Samples except to make a folder with edited samples to import.
If I try to play too many notes too fast, MachFive will crash ProTools...
Nothing else in my plugin arsenal will do this. I maintain a relatively crash free environ in my Post Production for Film system.

In fact there is no single greater cause of Pro Tools crashing that I have experienced as MachFive. It should not be sold as a Sampler, but as a Pro Tools crashing utility.

So, yeah, I'm angry that they can't address these problems. And I'm miffed that what I thought would be a Primo piece of software has been expensive for me and has never really worked satisfactorily. And yes, I am angry that what I saw as a solution to these problems might have been MachFive V2 and that MOTU has been dragging thier feet releasing it. And not really supporting this product. And I'm upset that I chose MachFive over Kontakt...

So... I'm a MOTU fool, maybe you'all will believe the next thing they say, But I certainly wont...

My guess is that a lot of folks are thinking MOTU has abandoned MachFive. I not saying that is what MOTU is doing, but that might be the perception.

MOTU demo'd MAchFive 2 at NAMM in Jan. 2005 and issued a press release that same month. One year ago. Since then there's been mostly silence as to the status of v2, and some rumors that float on this board from time to time. The frustration you're seeing is largely because no one knows when v2 is really coming out, and what happened to cause this long delay. Sometimes companies can get away with silence about their products. In this case though, MOTU might want to consider letting their customer base in on some info, or release some free samples, or do something to let people know that MOTU is still standing tall with MachFive.

Never had a problem with the supplied samples loading

You can download a demo of Kontakt 2.0 from the NI site and you may be as underwhelmed as I was by it. I'm not sure why this gear gets so much good press. The GUI is the ugliest thing ever and it sounds more like a synth than a sampler - it is also a real dog to figure out, so my money is still with MOTU despite the problems.

This was the crux of my earlier reply - in promising an update and then not delivering MOTU have created un-necessary cynicism from some users.

However your experience of using it sounds like a nightmare. Post your system info and the versions of Protools and MachFive you are using and we'll see if we can get to the bottom of your problems with you.

Mach5 fine is running fine for me under PT7.0 as well. However, I can't import my EXS sample library as it crashes UVi extract, so it makes M5 rather useless.
I have had to buy Kontakt 2 and it certainly isn't as stable as M5 but the library that comes with it is much better and it will import most of my EXS library no worries at all.
I'm hoping version 2 of M5 will sougt the import stuff out and add the feature of syncing loops to tempo and then I will try M5 again.

well I bought vers 1 only a few months ago because I had a friend who used it and I had read that vers 2 was coming out any minute. in fact I thought there was something that said "buy it now because vers 2 is coming out any minute" or words to that effect. the fact that I bought DP right around that time probably had something to do with it too.

it does worry me a bit that I may have made the wrong choice. it works great and I'm happy with it, but these things are an investment of not only money, but time also.
