REX files?
I know this is an old topic, but is there any way to get REX files to import into DP 10 or 11? I know they're 32-bit, but the manual still seems to think it's possible. Is there a way/. I no longer can find the REX Shared Library 1.7.
Thanks,
Kinny Landrum

Re: REX files?
Hi Kinney,
There’s an app “Easy REX Converter” in the App Store. The description says it will convert REX to .wav I’ve never tried it
However l use Spectrasonics Stylus RMX as a standalone app to import REX files. From within DP as an Instrument, you can then drag the imported Rex file from the Stylus app to a MIDI track in DP. Stylus as a plug-in can’t import REX files as far as I know. ReCycle (which I don’t know if it’s still supported) will also convert REX files
Once the MIDI Data is in the MIDI track it will “play” the Stylus plug-in. The best thing is that I can manipulate the MIDI notes to create new drum patterns with the same feel as the original was played.
Stylus as a plug-in works in DP 11.02 here running on Mohave.

Re: REX files?
I'm experiencing this myself. REX is a specific library style from Propellerheads, Reason Studios now, and it's currently not supported in M1 Macs, Big Sur etc. Reason Studios have a new API out, but it's not implemented yet in DP. On an M1 Mac it's pretty much impossible, you can have a Rosetta app like AudioFinder that can play them but it can't convert them.
If you're on an Intel Mac youre best bet right now is to buy that App Easy REX Converter, but it's possible it doesn't work. I emailed the developer to find out.

Re: REX files?
Hi Michael and Frank,
Thanks for the recommendation of Easy REX Converter, which I found in the App Store and looks like it will work. Most of my REX files I have in WAV format as well, so I don't need this converter right now. But what I really miss is the ability to use REX files in their chopped up state, not converted to one long WAV file. It's great for making tempo changes, like ritards, with drum loops. Oh well, looks like another good technology tool lost to "progress." If anyone knows another way, I welcome the recommendation. Thanks for the prompt response. Happy New Year.

Re: REX files?
Exactly Kinny.
Conveting REX to WAV defeats the purpose for the most part.
I'm bummed to hear about REX (and Stylus?) on AS. Hopefully it's sorted before I jump on the new desktop when its released.

Can you explain a bit more? I use Stylus a lot and also don't know what AS refers to.monkey man wrote: ↑Sat Jan 01, 2022 12:51 am Exactly Kinny.

Re: REX files?
AS refers to Apple Silicon or M1 chips and the OS changes needed to run them, REX is currently not supported natively on that format by any application I can find. Reason Studios recently updated the SDK for REX so applications will be able to use it soon, it's just a matter of how long it takes for them to implement it. Spectrasonics claim full compatibility here: https://www.spectrasonics.net/support/k ... tegoryID=9philbrown wrote: ↑Sat Jan 01, 2022 6:25 amCan you explain a bit more? I can get programs like AudioFinder to play REX files in it's browser, even draw the waveforms etc. but it will not convert them to a new format, so Stylus is probably fine, since DP shoudn't have issues recording the Stylus tracks as audio.

Re: REX files?
I mentioned to Phil here, REX is coming to AS. Honestly though, REX file converted to Apple Loops instantly conform to tempo in DP, and in most other programs. REX is cool for the artifacts it leaves behind, not really better than any of the stretch algorithms that came after.monkey man wrote: ↑Sat Jan 01, 2022 12:51 am Exactly Kinny.

Re: REX files?
Apple Loops are fine, but they can't do what REX does - the MIDI-mapping thing.
Thank you for that info Michael. Great to know that REX support will make it to AS; much-appreciated mate.
