DP 10.13 on M1?

Post by rawrooo »

Does DP 10.13 work on an M1 mac? It'd be with an Apollo x8p if it matters.

(I tried searching but didnt come up with anything, I imagine this has been covered before)

Macs rarely run a OS version earlier than the one they have installed when you buy them.

Hi bayswater!

Yes I’ve observed that too but I’m not sure what you mean.

I currently own DP 10 and don’t want to upgrade to DP 11, not yet anyway.

I’m outfitting another room and thinking of buying an an M1 Mac Mini. I’m just looking for any inherent conflicts with running DP 10 on it.

Are you saying the conflict is between DP 10.13 and Monterey? Or is there a conflict between DP 10.13 and the M1 chip?

Thank you

It's a total gamble that DP10 would run on an M1 with no problems. It would be running in Rosetta, a code conversion mode, and all of this was introduced after 10. I wouldn't do it personally, and DP11 is pretty great.

DOH!!! I read 10.13 as OS 10.13. Sorry. Too much mulled wine.

I was agreeing with Michael C. I don't think 10.13 on a Mac mini is your best option. Save up your pennies and spring for the DP upgrade. You won't regret it.

BTW, I don't know if the Mac Mini is shipping with Monterey yet. Mine came with Big Sur and I haven't updated yet.

For future reference, DP 10.13 works fine so far on the M1 Mac mini Big Sur.

Not that I'm without some configuration issues, concerning the connection of an E-Drums kit. I'll be starting a subsequent thread on that in a moment. I don't think it's related to the M1 aspect at all though. Just general weirdness from trying to make MIDI connections over USB, half cocked Roland drivers and that kind of thing.

Also had some hiccups with finding a dead thunderbolt port on an 828x that Brendan from MOTU kindly and expertly helped sort out. Typical MOTU interface bs though, I must say! I've been using MOTU software, countless MOTU interfaces and other gear since 1995. Some port or another always seems to turn up dead or uncooperative eventually. Even more irritating is, they've apparently instituted a new-ish policy where they will no longer repair gear older than 2 years. Though to their credit the gear usually remains extremely functional anyway! In this case we ended up using the USB port on the 828x even though it's not supported and it's been working fine with there Mac mini. I even still have multiple 828mk2's that often end up being total problem solvers even though they're no longer 100% functional (dead screens or ports etc).

As I get working on this Mac mini I'll update this thread should relevant info or issues come to light.
