DP10 is waaay snappier than DP11...when working to picture

My experience with DP11 (and 11.01) has been that the GUI is noticeably less responsive than DP10's, but since I rarely am not working to picture I only just recently figured out that it's only when I'm working to a movie that DP11 is sluggish. Sometimes extremely so.

Without a movie involved the response times of DP10 and DP11 are identical (both snappier like DP10). I've tried various movie sizes and codecs all seem more or less the same.

I'm hoping it's something in my system causing the slow down and not DP11 itself - there's quite a few things I'm liking and using in 11. Before I contact MOTU I wanted to see if others were experiencing this. Any suggestions on how I might fix the problem are appreciated.

Hey Dix are you using the new "scale" feature, or do do you have it set to 100%?

Reason I ask is because it kind of looks like a graphics/translation hang up to me, as opposed to a processing slow down.. I could be wrong, of course.

Good idea Killahurts! But, no Going to 100% from 110%, where it was set, the problem persists. Here's another video demonstrating the Movie/No-Movie GUI slowdown.

hi all, since you're discussing the movie issues in DP11, I've been trying to import a movie into DP11, and when it's imported the mini menu (right click or control click) in the movie menu refuses to open, just get a DP dialog saying error (also on the movie window pulldown menu, same thing).

Basically it makes DP useless to me which trying to work with a movie...

Sorry if this is off-topic, but maybe someone has come across this, as I also notice a slower response once I've imported the movie into DP11.

Sorry, I've not seen your issue. Try this thread maybe? viewtopic.php?f=1&t=66878 it might have some clues. If not I recommend starting a new thread

Back to me: MOTU TechSupport can't replicate my laggy experience and isn't sure what's going on. Since there's several 5,1 cMP users on MN I have to assume I'm on my own with this....I'd still like confirmation from one of yous if possible.

Dix, my studio is booked for the next week, but after that I have a score to dig into. I've been working in DP10.13 because I just haven't had time to finish building my new DP11 boot drive yet, but I'll give it a whirl ASAP and report back here.

Bumping this.

Still hoping to hear from 5,1-modded cMP users working to picture to confirm or disaffirm the problem. I'm stuck in DP10 for most projects until I can figure out what's going on.

MOTU Support, who has not seen this with any other users, appears stumped. Their only suggestion so far has been purging all old versions of DP and their prefs and reinstalling DP11. I did that to no avail, plus I tried launching DP on a fresh user-account. Again, no diff.

My latest suspicion is some kind of incompatibility with my video card. Unfortunately I don't have a working spare card at the moment that I can test. I'm considering buying any old card to test with. ...kind of a terrible time to buy graphics cards, but I totally would if it fixed this.

Any feedback or suggestions are appreciated. Apart from what I mention above, here's everything I've tried so far.

- Tried various movie sizes and codecs - no difference
- Scaled DP to 100% - no difference
- Scaled 4K displays to higher resolution - no difference
- Eliminated all but one display - no difference
- Removed Preferences from Library>Preferences>motu.com.DigitalPerformer - no difference
- Trashed com.motu.DigitalPerformer.plist - no difference
- Disabled All Plugins in DP - a slight difference in the lag
- Tried various buffer settings - higher buffer improves things slightly, lower worsens it
- Clear Movie - eliminates the problem entirely

I am also suffering from the delay in response time with DP11.
It only happens when using movie.
I'm using a Mac Pro 2013 12core with Mojave OS and Vienna Ensemble Pro at the same time,
but the same thing happens with DP11 alone.
In the same environment, with DP10, the problem does not occur at all.

Well that is interesting. I had concluded it was an issue with my cMP's particulars, but this info might change that assumption. The lag doesn't happen on my MBP, nor on other user's in the MOTUguru FB group running more modern Mac's.

I'd urge you to report it to MOTU support if you haven't done so. Apart from my report, they'd not seen this before.

I've been running DP 10.13 on a Sierra partition, just fresh installed Mojave on another SSD internal drive, and have DP 11.02 on that. Mostly OK, with some EXTREME sluggishness on certain actions. It takes around 40 seconds with a beachball to open a pop up window to rename in the markers window, and other places. If hitting the down button on the markers list when in "pop-up'd" mode it takes around 8 seconds to move to the next marker. Also accessing the waveform magnification button on a track in the SE yields an around 14 second beachball before it works.

Weird because other actions (playback, editing in the SE window) seem to be fine. This is a 48k/24bit file, running a 1024 buffer, no plugins, still in the editing stage, but only a handful of cuts so far. Running a movie window.
