Ultralite mk3 firewire + M1 Big sur
Hello everybody,
Could MOTU tell us if in the near future there will be support for Ultralite mk3 firewire + M1 Big sur? Or will it be never available? If not i wonder why Motu can't make it work and RME can with the firface 400.
Thanks for the quick answer.

If I were in your situation, I'd be asking MOTU this question. They're the only ones who really know the answer. I mean, you could get all sorts of speculation and rumors here, but why bother if you want an actual answer?

The only thing MOTU tells anyone is that it's unsupported.

I was directly answering the question:
I didn't say it wouldn't work. I said if he wants to know if a product will be supported by MOTU in the future, they are the only ones who'd know that."Could MOTU tell us if in the near future there will be support for Ultralite mk3 firewire + M1 Big sur?"

WE KNOW THE ANSWER. IT WON’T BE SUPPORTED IN THE FUTURE.Tritonemusic wrote: ↑Sun Aug 01, 2021 6:53 am I was directly answering the question:I didn't say it wouldn't work. The newest unit is 12 years old and was superseded by the Hybrid in 2009.
MOTU has made it very clear by leaving the current drivers for all the non-Hybrids off the support matrix even though the current drivers for the Hybrid work on this and other unsupported devices such as the 828mkII, 8Pre and others.
https://motu.com/techsupport/technotes/driverlog
Would it be nice if MOTU posted what really works telling people there’s no support and they’re on their own? Of course but they’ve gone the other way. They aren’t even telling people to download the current drivers. I’m sure that, if we know they work, so does MOTU.
A number of people have posted about asking MOTU only to be that old hardware is not supported. In addition, MOTU has pulled their drivers for MacOS older than 9 and Windows older than XP from the Downloads site. Last year it was all still there.
A business decision has been made by MOTU and it’s quite clear whether you believe it or not.

Re: Ultralite mk3 firewire + M1 Big sur
I'm a fan of DP, but I don't particularly like that they depreciate their hardware and software without any public announcement of it. I bought an RME Fireface 800 15 years ago, the M1 macs don't have a firewire port, but thunderbolt supports it, it took RME maybe 2 months to come up with a driver for the 800 after finding out it could be supported through a dongle. This is why I bought the Babyface Pro as a replacement in the future, plus ultimate compatibility with ADAT for 8 in/outs from the Fireface in stand alone mode for years to come.
I'm sitting here with an MTP/AV and it's looking like it's not compatible, but I'll still try it out with the latest driver, because I've had unsupported drivers work just fine. Even with mediocre companies like M-Audio, the original Midisport 4x4 works with the driver for the latest Midisport...
I don't think it's clear at all, you have to do research, like you did, to come to that conclusion. What would be clear is if MOTU flatly stated what was compatible and what has been depreciated, but they do not.mikehalloran wrote: ↑Sun Aug 01, 2021 8:09 am A business decision has been made by MOTU and it’s quite clear whether you believe it or not.

M2 Studio Ultra, RME Babyface FS, Slate Raven Mti2, NI SL88 MKII, Linnstrument, MPC Live II, Launchpad MK3. Hundreds of plug ins.

But your MTP AV USB should work as long as the two EPROMS are the latest. Since we know that the v1.6.82544 | Oct. 22, 2019 drivers work over Catalina and the download page says,Michael Canavan wrote: ↑Sun Aug 01, 2021 2:50 pm I'm a fan of DP, but I don't particularly like that they depreciate their hardware and software without any public announcement of it. why wouldn't v1.6.88619 | June 8, 2021 work over Big Sur?MOTU MIDI Installer
Installs latest drivers and software for all MOTU MIDI products
Supports macOS 10.13-10.15.x and 11.2+
Yea, because MOTU left these off the support matrix and if you call, you'll be told it's no longer supported.
There's an old saying, "The big print giveth while the fine print taketh away." Trying to find an analogy for "Support says No but the Download page says Yes". Maybe that's as close as I'll get.
Just think, 3 1/2 months till Monterey when we go through this all over again.

Re: Ultralite mk3 firewire + M1 Big sur
Hi everybody,
If i ask the question here is because MOTU doesn’t answer. And i think motunation forum is a place where we could expect an answer from MOTU!
Thx for all the replies.
So it works but not officially supported if i understand well.
My talk was to underlign to Motu that they should take care of their old customers and support even 12 years after. It is not hard to try the gear and tell us if it work or not.

I certainly didn't mean to discourage you from asking questions here. I apologize if that's how it came across. I was specifically trying to point out that the expectation of "I think motunation forum is a place where we could expect an answer from MOTU" is not realistic. MOTU doesn't get involved with this forum. That was the original point I tried to make (which obviously was missed).

Re: Ultralite mk3 firewire + M1 Big sur
Would this also apply to the Ultralite mk1 firewire? I'm upgrading my Mac and would love to continue using the Ultralite if possible. I already have a FW800 to FW400 cable, an Apple Thunderbolt 2 to Firewire adapter. Looks like I'd still need to buy a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter.mikehalloran wrote: ↑Sat Jul 31, 2021 11:48 am It works. Many recent threads on this subject. See below.
But I'd like to know if the drivers will work, and are we talking about native drivers or drivers running under Rosetta?

It should work unless there's a hardware problem and yes, you will need the Apple TB2-TB3 adapter.

Pay attention to the tech note highlighted in blue. That must be done within 30 minutes of driver installation.
