Motu M2 crackle clicking popping while listening to music on max buffer size
Hello!
I just bought the interface.
I have the following problem.
I'm Windows user.
The problem is that it cracks, pops up, clicks every 10 seconds while listening to music through the browser (YouTube, soundcloud), Winamp, Audacity, while it is set to 44.1khz 1024 samples (max. Buffer size) and Windows Sound Control Panel is set to 24bit 44.1khz.
Briefly, when the Windows Sound Control Panel and the Asio driver of the Motu M2 are tuned to the same sampling rate and
at the same time the Asio driver of the Motu M2 is set to maximum size buffer makes it.
Another buffer size (512, 256 and others) does not create a problem.
Are there others with a similar problem?!
At Ableton Live does not have this problem (Apparently because then the signal does not pass through the Windows Sound Control Panel).

What do you have the sample rate and bit depth set to in the Windows Sound Control Panel? If it's not the same as your M-Series Setting panel, try setting those to match. There might be some conversion (24 --> 16 bit) going on the the background. On my M4 I have the System Sound set to 48k, 24 bit and the sample rate in the M settings matches that. No crackling issues here.

Windows Sound Control Panel is set to 24bit 44.1khz.
From here I did everything https://motu.com/techsupport/technotes/ ... dows-audio
I tried with another USB cable - nothing.
Is it from the interface or from the driver?!
Most of the time I do mixing and mastering and then the interface has to be set to the maximum (1024) buffer size and when it switches to the browser it has to change the buffer size to other than 1024 (each time) so there is no cracking. It's just awkward.

Do you have the low latency box checked in the M Settings? Maybe try changing that. Sometimes crackles have to do with a little clock drift also. Start a case with MOTU tech support. They are usually very helpful.

Re: Motu M2 crackle clicking popping while listening to music on 44.1khz 1024 samples
I tried "use low latency" - nothing.
I updated BIOS - nothing.
I updated Firmware - nothing.
Interestingly, DAW does not have this problem, it works there without cracking. My next step is to contact the technical support of MOTU.
Thanks.

Hi there!
I have the exact same issue. Have you managed to solve this eventually?

I'm not on windows, but I did notice that there was no mention of clock source. Sometimes periodic clicks/crackles are based on two clocks drifting. If the clock is "following" it may work better than if two clocks are "leading".
