guitar effect chains; two questions

Post by sethares »

Hi MOTUnation -- it's been a long time since i have been here (last seen in DP6, but now upgraded to a shiny new v. 10). One thing I really like about the new version is the guitar effects processing, and hence my questions.

First, is there a collection or repository (or something) of nice effects chains that people have found useful (and are willing to share)? When I try to set up my own chains (for example: compressor->soloist->EQ->Live Stage->chorus) I find that there is a lot of tweaking needed in each and every module, and I cannot even be sure that some other order of processing might be better or easier to work with. It would really help if some people who had mastered such effects chains would be willing to share their efforts.

Second question: once I have a nice chain of effects, what is the best way to save it (for future use in other projects)?

Thanks!

Welcome Back Sethares!

Although I can't assist with your first question, I am pleased to advise you that you can save any chain of plugins for recall in future projects. Here's some info from the manual:
Insert Settings presets
Chains of inserts can be saved and recalled with the Insert Settings menu found at the top of the Inserts section in the Mixing Board and Channel Strip. A variety of factory presets are included, and you can edit, save, and recall your own presets.

Insert Settings menu commands

Save Insert Settings: saves a new insert settings file.

Delete Insert Settings: deletes the current insert settings file and clears the inserts. You will be warned that the action cannot be undone.

Restore Last Insert Settings: reloads the preset which was most recently loaded.

Open Insert Settings Folder: opens a Finder or Explorer window revealing the insert settings files. There, you can rename, copy, delete, and move your files.

Clear Inserts: removes all effects inserts. On instrument tracks, this command removes only the effects inserts; the instrument insert is unaffected.
If you think you may be returning here for advice periodically, you might want to create a signature with pertinent info. It helps others assist when troubleshooting if they know your setup. Have fun with DP10... it is a LOT better than DP6!

Just in case you didn't come across them, there are dozens of guitar chains installed with DP 10.

Gosh Bays, I never looked! I always use either Waves or NI.

I haven't done much with them, but they're sometimes a good starting point.

That "Insert Settings" box is very useful for saving and recalling chains of effects -- and it comes with lots of presets! I don't know I missed it -- thanks for the pointers!
