Error message at each close

Post by digitiki »

I'm getting an error message every single time I close DP10. I was getting this message so I updated to the absolute newest DP version + the newest MachFive version, but to no avail. It seems that it may be this one file. Nothing goes wrong with it while owrking on it, it is only upon closure of the document. Could it be the file, a autosave or DP's perferences file or something doing this? I really would hate to fully uninstall and reinstall both DP and MachFive if I can avoid it. Any thoughts are helpful!

error says: Digital Performer has quite unexpectedly
The origin of this crash could not be determined.blah blah blah.
then it gives me the option to report this error.

So this doesn't happen with other DP projects at all?

You can try the Load command from a new project. Load everything, including the copying of soundbites. If it closes the app correctly, something might have gotten corrupted in the original project.

Excellent idea! I did that and the session closes. But now when I go to quit DP, that pesky error pops up that DP iteself shut down. So this indicates to me that it must not be the file itself, but rather the program. ARGH

You can try OS's Console. See if it gives you clues of what's happening at the moment you close the project. Search by DP and/or MOTU. Notice the time of events too. This tool often points you in the right direction for detective work.

Try booting DP in Safe Mode (Shift key held down), shut down and reboot. If you still have a problem, rebuild the Launch Services

DP hangs when trying to quit in SafeMode. All windows close, I don't get an error message, but the App just sits there with the rainbow spinner going and never fully shuts down. I hate to sound like a noob, but how do I rebuild launch services?

Reset Launch Services High Sierra and later:

Open Terminal and run these commands (Copy and Paste):

1. sudo /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister -kill -seed -lint -r -f -v -dump -domain local -domain system -domain user -domain network
2. (enter Admin password when prompted)
3. killall Dock
4. sudo mdutil -E /
5. Restart your Mac

This not only resets your Mac but also each app to its default launch and shut down routines.

In at least one previous thread on this problem, it turned out to be a bad plugin causing the crash. That might show up in the crash logs.
