Dude, I played with this thing when I was in Seattle a couple of weeks ago - IT ROCKS! It is NOTHING like Pro Tools TDM pricewise. Native may be tidier physically but it can't touch the Receptor's low latency response and ZERO effect on your Mac's CPU. As for the Macintels, it's gonna be a while before our apps become really savvy on the new CPUs - hell DP is still not as CPU as we'd all like it to be on the PowerPC and you think it's gonna be better having to go through Rosetta? Not by a long shot! The Receptor has a ridiculously small Linux OS that is designed specifically for running VIs and other plugs - unlike all other computer OSs, it doesn't do anything else! There's no desktop, web browser, or any other crap to get in the way of the processing power for the plugs. No home computer out there can touch this thing when it comes to running plugins. The other thing is that it is but ONE unit that occupies a couple of rack spaces, and unlike like a TDM system, it ain't $10k. There is absolutely no comparison.Splinter wrote:Like I want another piece of hardware for my virtual studio? Not!Finally, a DSP Accelerator for Virtual Instruments!
Seriously, this concept is dead in the water right up there with Pro Tools TDM. Native is the only way to go. Get a Quad or wait till the Macintel towers come out and wave goodbye to all these hardware workarounds.

No I don't work for Muse Research, but I sure wish I had a pal who did.
