Here's something that's been nagging me for years: The many inputs and outputs of my Motu 24 I/O card are apparently sorted entirely random. Currently my outputs are currently sorted this way:
PCI-424 Analog 11-12 (MOTU PCI Wave Driver)
PCI-424 Analog 5-6 (MOTU PCI Wave Driver)
PCI-424 Analog 21-22 (MOTU PCI Wave Driver)
Multichannel (M-Audio Delta Audiophile)
PCI-424 Analog 19-20 (MOTU PCI Wave Driver)
S/PDIF (M-Audio Delta Audiophile)
Speaker (High Definition Audio Device)
PCI-424 Analog 13-14 (MOTU PCI Wave Driver)
PCI-424 Analog 17-18 (MOTU PCI Wave Driver)
Digitalaudio (S/PDIF) (High Definition Audio Device)
PCI-424 Analog 7-8 (MOTU PCI Wave Driver)
PCI-424 Analog 15-16 (MOTU PCI Wave Driver)
Line 1/2 (M-Audio Delta Audiophile)
PCI-424 Analog 9-10 (MOTU PCI Wave Driver)
PCI-424 Analog 3-4 (MOTU PCI Wave Driver)
Digitalaudio (S/PDIF) (High Definition Audio Device)
PCI-424 Analog 1-2 (MOTU PCI Wave Driver)
PCI-424 Analog 23-24 (MOTU PCI Wave Driver)
The inputs are also "sorted" in a similar way. This is the case in Windows own control panels (both new and old), as well as all DAWs and programs. It's the case for both WaveOut, ASIO and WASAPI. So I have some questions:
1) Is there a way to cause Windows 10 pro (64bit) to sort them in a slightly more sane way?
2) Does this also happen with newer Motu cards?

Re: Input/output sorting
Maybe this is a Windows problem.
Is everyone having their inputs and outputs showing up in alphabetical order?

Re: Input/output sorting
Take a look at Bundles Window in DP; I don't recall for sure (I'm away from the studio at the moment) but am thinking the order is as reflected in Bundles. And it can be changed there.
Re: Input/output sorting
I don't have Digital Performer (if that's what DP refers to), but this issue is in every application on Windows 10 pro 64 bit.
I've reinstalled Windows twice, and gotten a new computer since asking this question. The issue remains.
I don't think I'm the only one though. Recent versions of Samplitude X5 Pro have started sorting the inputs and outputs alphabetically (thank you Magix!) I'm sure they added that code for a reason.
But that only solves the problem inside Samplitude. Everything else is still a mess.
What do other brands do with multiple inputs and outputs in Windows? RME for example? All input is welcome.
