M2 - very desynced/slow audio after sleep

Post by tknx »

Whenever my Win 10 Pro PC waked up from sleep, the audio is super slow and distorted. Regardless of whether it is just Spotify or Youtube or system sounds.

Tried all the troubleshooting settings here:
https://motu.com/techsupport/technotes/ ... ows-audio/

None of them has fixed the issue... Not really sure what is going on.

I have the same issue every other time when I start windows. Depending on what sample rate I have set in the M Series control panel before I restart windows, let‘s say 96 kHz, and now try to play a youtube video, it‘s going to be played at half speed. If I now go into the M Series control panel and change the sample rate to any other than 96kHz and then change it back to 96kHz and wait a few seconds until the Motu changes the sample rate internally the youtube video now plays like it should. If I set the sample rate to 44.1kHz and windows boots again sometimes it plays slightly too fast. So I guess, somehow the sample rate changes to 48kHz internally in the Motu M device on these occasions. The wrong speed results from the ratio of the set sample rate in Windows Sound Playback settings sample rate and 48kHz.

I'm having this same issue and that's why I signed up here. When I saw you already have a thread going I thought it might be better to keep the issue here.
I just got the M4 and have been using a few other interfaces for years on the same system and haven't had this happen.

Everything is always set at 44.1 but I'm getting that sped up, 1/2 tone higher result you get when your DAW gets set to 48.

I have to re boot the M4 and the DAW and it will work until the next time I start my computer. My solution has been to boot the computer first and then turn on the M4. But then randomly if I have been doing other things and return to my DAW it plays fast again.
Of note is that I keep the M4 GUI open to see whats happening and it always shows 44.1.
My DAW shows 44.1 in 2 places, and even WIndows sounds shows 44.1 when this is happening.
I submitted a tech ticket but didn't expect much over the holidays.
My guess is they need to address this in a driver update.

I have almost the same issue. If Windows wakes up from hibernation audio can't be played. I have to click on the low latency offset once or twice in the MOTU control panel to get audio. Without doing so e.g. youtube videos won't even load. It doesn't matter if low latency offset is activated or deactivated when I put Windows into hibernation.

I think a driver update could easily fix this. The current driver (84479) hasn't been updated for almost 1 year now.

I guess posting here is sort of pointless.
But just incase someone actually finds this thread and reads it, my issue seems resolved by installing a PCIe USB 3 card. I also re installed the drivers which should not make a difference but so far everything is working a bit better. Still can't see why this device performs poorly compared to my old Scarlett. Still hoping they will eventually update the driver.

Sorry nobody had a solution for you guys, but thank you johnvee for posting what is working for you. Others may well appreciate it in the future.

If you haven't already, reach out to MOTU with a tech link to be sure they know the problem is happening for more than one person.

FWIW (and maybe not much, coming from a Mac guy), I never let my studio machine sleep. And if I walk away (like for lunch) I quit DP and relaunch after I return. Just in case it's helpful to you.

Same here. I had to stop letting my machine sleep-- nothing but trouble in that sleep business.

So is happening on the Mac too? I was thinking it might be a Windows only thing.
