What´s the best MIDI interface for DP 9?

Post by gjensse »

I´ve been struggling with MOTU´s Micro Lite for years now. It´s the most unreliable piece of hardware in my studio. So I am looking for something better. Any recommendations?

Not nearly enough information for anyone to make anything other than a blind guess.

Alright, I´ll try to explain. I have a few vintage MIDI keyboards connected to the Micro Lite MIDI interface. When I send MIDI note data from DP to these instruments, too often nothing is happening, i.e. the instruments do not receive anything. A restart of the computer sometimes helps, but not always. I can see on MOTU´s homepage that the latest driver for the Micro lite is from 2011. Maybe this is the reason?
MIDI works fine on the UltraLite mk2 audio/MIDI interface, but there is only one MIDI In and one MIDI Out on this interface. So I am looking for a reliable USB MIDI interface with several MIDI Outs.

The latest drivers for the MicroLite is for OS 10.15 and is posted on October 2, 2019. You might want to update the MicroLite drivers for the OS you're currently running. That should help eliminate a potential issue if it doesn't solve your problems.

Sorry, I was too fast there. I have OSX 10.13 with the latest MIDI drivers from 2017. I suspect my Micro Lite is faulty. I´ve always struggled with it since I bought it in 2012. It´s actually the only studio gear I´ve ever had that doesn´t work as it should. So I´ve just ordered the MioXM from iConnectivity.

The latest MIDI drivers are v1.6.82544 | Oct. 22, 2019 and are recommended for all MOTU MIDI interfaces running OS 10.13 – 10.15.

My MTP AV is a lot older than your Micro Express and worked fine with those drivers over High Sierra.

All older MOTU MIDI interfaces use a CR2032 battery to keep the settings. I don't know if yours uses one but I suspect not.
