Is my MOTU 828 MK3 working?

I got an MOTU 828 Mk3 Firewaire off eBay and its not working correctly. My problem is I don't know if the issue is the MOTU, Firewire card or Windows. (I've tried three different cables).

If I send audio to the MOTU from Albeton no sound comes out of the MOTU and the Main Level LEDs don't light up. (Ableton work fine with an RME interface)

In CueMix if I turn a trim knob it changes the Trim on the MOTU and visa versa so they're talking to each other.

What makes me think the MOTU are broken is, when I play audio into any Audio In the level LEDs on the MOTU don't light up and audio does not come out of Main Out (looking at CueMix Mix, everything in Bus 1 goes to Main Out). Also, if I play MIDI into the MOTU the MIDI LED on the front doesn't light up.

I factory reset the MOTU. It didn't help.

Is there a way to test a MOTU stand alone to prove its OK before I buy another Firewire card? And am I right in thinking MIDI In and Audio In should light the level LEDs even if the unit is not connected to a computer?
