AVID S3 EuCon Controller
hey everybody - i am retooling my studio and simultaneously going old school/New School-
next week i am installing a Tree Console with a Burl Mothership front end- 16 x 32 with no faders anywhere and a new MacPro....... as a long time DP user- i am getting rid of my older, computer/console combination which had the fader automation.... so i have been looking at replacement options.
The DM4800 used HUI control protocol and worked really well- but all the guys i have been chatting with tell me EuCon is the future.... SO....
i was considering going with the Avid S3 as the automation for my new set up over the SSL Nucleus II and the Icon Qcon pro X.
the primary work flow is mainly for rides, mutes, panning and grouping....... i will most likely still use my trackpad for accessing plug ins and more of the feature rich layers.....
any feedback on S3/Nucleus or Qcon would be greatly appreciated..... thanks so much in advance!!

Re: AVID S3 EuCon Controller
It looks like maybe a side effect of the parameter publishing for VEP in 10.13 has made the audio meters work in EUCON displays!? I didn't see anything in the release notes about it so who knows. A very nice and welcome feature if you're using an Artist Mix with DP. Someone should check to see if it's started working in the iPad Eucon app. I had to delete the Control Surface driver and re-add it to make it come up. Super Cool!
Re: AVID S3 EuCon Controller
just an Artist Mix here, but I know the iPad Eucon app works as well, I've never tried a S3 with DP but it should be ok? just not anywhere as full featured as Pro Tools. Like level, pan, track names, and now audio meters. in fact for the money, and the lack of operability, unless you also do PT and intend to keep using it, you'd be better served with an old Artist Mix (or 3) or a S1. I never have to ride more than 8 faders at once, it works ok for me. not that hard to setup network wise, I'll never even look at HUI again.

Re: AVID S3 EuCon Controller
My Tree Console has 32 which means with 16- the fader banks are just A/B as opposed to 4 so.... i do like that feature about having 16 in a single sleek unit....... the things you mentioned are really the only use i have for the faders- i won't really use a control unit for opening eq's and efx...... but you find that the artist mix is seamless for your needs??mrgkeys wrote:just an Artist Mix here, but I know the iPad Eucon app works as well, I've never tried a S3 with DP but it should be ok? just not anywhere as full featured as Pro Tools. Re: AVID S3 EuCon Controller
yes it does. And I believe you can lock 2 of them together to look nicer
The Artist Mix allows you to bank in banks of 8 or step thru one at a time. You can also assign Faders to any track for that sequence, I'll do that with the Master or Print track sometimes. I sum 8 stereo groups and most of my moves are on those and print it back, much like with Pro Tools, I get a lot of things to mix in PT. nice of Eucon to have 1024 step of resolution too vs HUIs 128. The Artist Mix is discontinued I THINK? so the S1 may be what you end up with. But there's tons of them out there, probably plenty new in the box. And its the same Eucon driver.

I'm reviving a zombie thread here... but I have an S3 unit. Been a bit disappointed how DP is not supporting some of the advanced features that well.NashvilleJoe wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 4:54 pm Oh i went ahead and picked up the S3 wont have it until next week -when we are still wiring in the patch bays...... i think its going to be a great piece of gear and one that gets used every day of the week !!
