Record mod wheel after entering the notes
Hi,
I just entered a choir MIDI track and I'm now trying to do a pass on top of it with the mod wheel to give it dynamics. When I do the pass all the notes get deleted. Is there a way to do that?
I've tried recording mode Override, Latch, Touch and all the other ones, but the MIDI data currently in the track seems to be overwritten every time.
Thanks,
Roger

You need to have overdub mode on. The button is up in the transport under the play button.

Yea, the override, latch and touch deal with automation. "Merge Record" is what you want.
I was just doing a similar thing with a recorded part where I was adding breath controller on a subsequent pass.

Or, you could record the controller data on another track. Sometimes this approach can be useful, especially if you want the controller data to control more than one track.

Or if you want to easily add or remove portions of the data. I love this approach. When all is sounding great, the note and controller tracks can be merged if a streamlined project file is desired.cuttime wrote:Or, you could record the controller data on another track. That's a great idea! So a MIDI Device group, not for layering and triggering notes, but just for sending CCs to multiple instruments.cuttime wrote:Or, you could record the controller data on another track. Among other things, this could be useful for controlling the entire mock-orchestra's dynamics with one CC performance. You'd likely have to adjust individual VI's CC response curves, since libraries, and even instruments within libraries respond differently to the same CC input, but once set this approach could be a real time saver. Thx!

Right click on the button on the track where you go to add an envelope for automation and look at the bottom of the list where it says "track automation mode". Change that from "trim/read" to "touch". See if that works.
