Weird recording issues.

Post by Saintmatthew »

So, not sure if they are related, but I'm having some issues crop up that are very frustrating. First, these issues seem to be only happening in one file. Not even an old one. Still, I'd rather not try and reinvent the whole thing. Issue one - I cannot record MIDI. I can monitor it fine. I have a MIDI track routed to a VI. It's set to record enable and I hear the VI being triggered but recording produces no results. Creating a new track doesn't help. Work fine in a new file though. I've toggled multi-record and checked input filter. Issue two - I cannot route audio from one audio track to another via buses. I can route via a bus through an Aux track, but not the record and/or input monitoring enabled audio track. This of course precludes me from realtime-reocrindg the audio out of a VI. Any suggestions?

My first thought is the view filter (cmd-f). If you inadvertently hit that, the recording may well be there, you just can't see it. Go back to the view filter and adjust the settings accordingly.

If it is the filter, you should be able to hear the recording on playback.

If it's not that, then other troubleshooting methods have to be employed. Not sure what those would be at the moment.

Toggled the view filter and all the MIDI I'd written in by hand disappeared so it's not that. It's weird that it's just THIS file too.

NM. Found it. "Auto Record". A button that I have never used in almost 20 years of using this program. I don't even know if it's been in that long. I must've hit it by accident at some point. Oh well, hopefully if someone else runs into the same issue they find my thread.

I don't think I've ever used it. You don't mean punch-in, do you?

Apparently a specific type of Punch In/Out. From the manual:

AUTO-RECORD BUTTON
Auto-Record causes recording to automatically
turn on and off in a specific time range. This allows
you to record without having to manually enable
and disable the Record button.

Well now I know why I never used it. Lol. I do use retroactive record all the time. I’ve pretty much stopped using the record button. So awesome. Just be sure to record arm the destination track before selecting retro. You can do that after the transport is stopped. Even as a new take. Amazing.

AutoRecord is apparently what DP calls a punch-in. The little punch-in toggle button that may or may not be in your control bar is labeled "AutoRecord."
