DP 3.1 Question from the past.
Last nite I went to use DP3.1/OS 9x. Have not used DP 3 for some time. Just for greater certainty DP3 is not running in classic its running in the "real" OS 9.
Can anyone here recall if DP 3 can use virtual instruments other than QT or Roland's VSC such as LinPlug's daOrgan? I have the OS 9 version of that plug and use it in Cubase 5 ( os9 ).
Or was the ability for DP to handle virtual instrument plug-ins introduced in DP 4?

Re: DP 3.1 Question from the past.
I think the only virtual synths that ran in DP3.1 were MAS/Freemidi and ReWire versions. It's been so long, I have trouble recalling.

Re: DP 3.1 Question from the past.
DP3 could run MAS Virtual Instruments. Instead of creating an instrument track however, you just inserted it as a plugin on an Aux track.

Re: DP 3.1 Question from the past.
Thanks for the confirmation.
It's also been a long time since I've used DP3.
I've got a huge collection of fx plugs such as adobe premiere fx plugs , the 3 rocket plugs, opcode and cubase plugs that I was using in DP3. I wanted to apply to some of those effects to several audio tracks created in DP 4.
So while I was in DP3 I was poking around trying to remember its features. It was also helpfull to realize what an improvement MOTU made from DP3 to DP4.
Thanks again for your response/interest in my question.

I ran Unity (DS-1 and Session) in OS9
Early 2011 MacBookPro, 2.7 Quad Core i7, 8GB RAM, OSX 10.8.2, DP8.01/7.24, PSP MixPack2/VW2/StereoPack AU, Nomad Factory Bundle, iZotope RX2, Melodyne, Antares AT7, IK Tracks3 & Sampletank, Various VST plugs, Various other AUs
Re: DP 3.1 Question from the past.
I use Mach 5, Kontakt and SampleTank in DP 3. The implementation is a little clunky but it serves its purpose just fine.

I ran plenty of VSTi in DP3 using Pluggo as a VSt host.

Re: DP 3.1 Question from the past.
I know this is an old topic, but I'm in the same boat as the original poster.
Where do I put MAS plugins to use them in DP 3.11? I tried the plugin folder within the DP3 folder, but it doesn't see them. It doesn't even see FM7 which installed MAS support.

Re: DP 3.1 Question from the past.
It's been a while but I think they go into Extensions>Motu>Plugins or something close to that. I know for sure there is a sub-folder in the Extensions folder they need to go into.

Yes, DP3 can handle most of virtual instruments. For the ones with MAS such NI's stuff (Battery, B4....) you can use it like any plug ins: call one up in the AUX track and set a MIDI track to it.Originally posted by midiw:

For VSTi you need an excellent VST wrapper from audioease (you buy one and get both OS9 & OSX) , and to use one is set up the same way as MAS.
That plug in folder is for file base plug ins (audio suite), you can't do a realtime thing.Originally posted by tencentcat:

These plug ins are in plug in folder at the same place as DP application.
Although all of plug ins will show up in there if you have DP open and all realtime plug ins are in the right place.
MAS plug ins are in Exensions -> MOTU -> MAS, audio diver, and Plug-ins the last foder is where all plug ins go.
If you have a VST Wrapper, this foder also go in there.
All VSTi will go inside the VST Wrapper folder.
I'm still going back to OS 9 once in awhile to use my old BIAS Peak.

Re: DP 3.1 Question from the past.
Thanks for the clarification. For some reason though, I still can't get FM7 (or any other third party plugs) to show up. FM7 was in the extensions folder, but anything I put in the Apps/DP3/Plugin folder doesn't show up. Is there just something simple I'm forgetting, like a preference or something like that?
Re: DP 3.1 Question from the past.
The Apps/DP3/Plugin folder is for nonrealtime audio suite plug ins only.Originally posted by tencentcat:

No MAS

For FM7 if it's a MAS plug in, should be in the Plug-ins folder inside MOTU and Extensions folders.
If it's a VSTi, you need a VST Wrapper.
