No sound with 828es (USB)

Post by vonbleak »

Anyway - where to begin... Its been a bit of a headache to say the least. So as stated in one of the above posts, the apple thunderbolt converter/cables dont seem to work (windows wont detect anything) so ive ordered the Startech one (and a new Startech cable too) as they have been reported to work, but i have to wait 3-4 weeks for those to come so fingers crossed...

Anyway, i decided to setup the 828es using USB for now but even that is giving me issues, serious issues... i have no sound!

So both the Motu discovery app, and windows itself sees the unit, and i can go into the control panel web app and everything seems fine. However i get no audio playback, either in windows itself (youtube, spotify ect...) or from Cubase Pro 10.5...

Windows seems to be playing ok - i can see the meter moving when i look at sound settings but nothing seems to getting to/from the motu... Cubase is a even a little stranger, it sees the motu driver and detects the ins/outs (even though they are only labled as numbers) but not only do i get no sound playback - Cubase shows no metering at all in its mixer! In both cases there is no sign of activity/metering on the motu unit itself either on the hardware or software...

The motu drivers and firmware are up to date and im pretty my routing settings in the motu app are ok (but im hoping they are not and im just missing something really simple)...

If anyone has any ideas or tips i would love the help!

Cheers and thanks for you time...

N :arrrr:

[UPDATE]

So upon some closer inspection it seems cubase is only half seeing the motu pro audio drivers as there are no latecny numbers being shown. In one window it just shows all 0.00ms and in another it shows ? instead of any number... very strange

To be clear, i have updated to the lastest firmware for the 828es and tried uninstalling, rebooting and reinstalling the drivers, so far its still the same... I am about to try some different USB ports on the PC to see if that makes any difference and will update again if anything changes... :brucelee:

So ive done some more testing while waiting to hear back from Motu...

i tested my bass through the new Motu and it works a treat, audio flows in/out as it should - so it seems the hardware is fine and that its a Win10/Driver issue - Im hoping the issue is specifically with the USB driver and when i get the Thunderbolt adapter it just magically works lol...

Also just to be clear i also have no sound in windows itself getting the motu and i have tried Foobar2000 which is an audio player that can use Asio drivers and it too wont play back when using the Motu drivers... I tried uninstalling/re-installing the Motu Pro Audio software, but alas that did nothing... And i have also tried 2 different USB ports, a USB2 and a USB3, no change...

This is really starting to drive me nuts! :arrrr:
