[RESOLVED] MOTU 2408 mk2 TDIF analog signal input?

Post by DeepDrums »

Hello,

I couldn't find any info in the manual about this. May I use the DB25-TRS cable to direct connect analog gear outputs signal to MOTU 2408 mk2 Tascam TDIF inputs?

Or do the signal need to be digital converted first!?

Please let me know.

Cheers.

As far as I know DB25-TRS is an analog connection. Not digital.

Yes, of course, but the manual tells that only some specific Tascam compatible hardware may be needed to take the full advantage of the 2408 Tascam TDIF socket!?

I do not plan to synchronize gear through that port though.

TDIF is a digital connection, you can hook up to a digital mixer or a DA-88/38/78

Ok, let me first clear out some confusion. Let me simplify the first part of my question:

Do you mean that I CAN'T connect the synthesizer analog output to 2408 TDIF with a DB25-TRS cable? It won't work, just silence!?

Please clarify.

Correct.

There are analog to digital converters that support the TASCAM format on the digital side. I don't know any currently being made but a 2408 in stand-alone mode will convert 8 channels.

Ahh, I understand, make sense. Thanks for your input.
