MOTU UPDATE YOUR FIRMWARE & WINDOWS XP DRIVER
I CHALLENGE ALL THE PEOPLE AT MOTU TO FULLFILL THIS REQUEST....
- Assemble a pc based windows xp professional system.
- Dual processor Intel Xeon server motherboard.
- Install sufficent ram etc.. typical pc based recording hardware
- Install four (4) 896HD firewire recording interfaces on a single firewire bus.
- Install both asio and wdm drivers.
- Install Cakewalk Sonar 5 producer edition (wdm driver).
- Install Native Instruments Komplete 3 (asio driver).
- NOW MAKE IT WORK !! MINUS ALL THE CLICKS AND POPS AND DROPOUTS !!
I have never been so dissapointed in a product's performance until i purchased a pair of 896HD's and tried to get both of them to work correctly. The motu manual says that it is possible to run up to four 896HD's on a single firewire bus and they reccomend a texas instruments (TI) chipset. Guess what..i have tried two different pc's and three different TI firewire chipsets and i cannot get dual 896HD's to work correctly...let alone four of them...For that reason i challenge motu if they are willing,..to make this work with a pc that they put together themselves, and prove to me that it works......Then give me the detailed specs of that system....I am not the only motu 896hd user with this problem, they are all over this forum, why are there so many motu 896hd's for sale online at half the original price ?? I'll tell you why.....People are getting rid of them because they cannot perform to the standard that motu says they can. Mac users will most likely disagree with what i am saying, but it is well know that motu was originally designed for mac, but now fully support the windows platform also........but not really because they just don't work well with windows....Motu needs to update their firmware and drivers to make these units work correctly.
I challenge them to this task..........

Point well taken.......
As you can tell the Belkin F5U503 card did not work for me either.......
I have reverted back to a single 896hd........
I'll just have to wait for a response from Motu...Outside this forum..
Thanks

Obviously you have not read on other forum :
1) user are having problem with one FW audio interface and a FW disk on the same bus? you want to use 4 audio !
Some users have bee able to fix there problem using 2 FW interfaces !
If you have a PCI 424 you can use 4 audio devices on 4 "audio wire" !!!
2) Kontakt is a CPU exterminator
Give back you 896 and use PCI Motu ( I have a 54 in/out Motu system with PCI 424+1296+2048MKII+24i) works great !

Yes, spamming this board won't help and I edited your header again to remove your "SHAME ON MOTU" header. You have a problem then stated as you have, without the "shame on you" stuff which just sounds silly.

James...I apologize for the spamming and it will not happen again......However i see that more users like me have voiced their opinions and experiences as a result of my posting. Watch the list grow as time goes on. (Thanks Jidis)
Cyril it is obvious to me that you have not read the Motu 896hd user manual (For Windows). Read it before you make comments please.....Better yet i tell you what it says...From "Chapter 4" Installing The 896HD Hardware, Page 33, Connecting Multiple Motu Firewire Interfaces it reads.....You can daisy-chain up to four MOTU FireWire interfaces on a single firewire bus, and then the picture of four motu 896 HD's are shown daisy-chained to a laptop. Each 896hd has it's own firewire hub that allows for this connection scheme. I'm asking motu to make this work in real life, instead of on paper...Also Kontakt maybe a cpu exterminator as you say but what about Sony Acid Pro 5 and Soundforge 8 and Reason 3..are they hogs also because i get the same results with those applications, even without NI Komplete 3 installed, i haved already tried it.....why do you think i am here ?
In the case of the pci based motu 424 system, if you say it works for you that's great....I want the 896HD, and i want it to work....besides who am i going to give it back to.....

Shame? Spamming?
In defense of the original poster, I don't think posting a grievance about MOTU hardware in the (unofficial) MOTU forum is really spamming. Spamming is usually flooding forums or news groups(or email) with un related commercial offers. I dont see any reference to lolita porn or Cialis in his post.
On a constructive note. I have never had any sucess with my Motu hardware except when using the asio drivers. WDM/KS just gives me BSOD whenever I do anything more complicated than 2 in 2 out. Have you tried enabling "share audio hardware with other programs" in Sonar and activating ASIO for both programs?

Re: MOTU UPDATE YOUR FIRMWARE & WINDOWS XP DRIVER
Are there WDM drivers available for Komplete 3? I have never tried using WDM and ASIO devices at the same time, but that might be what is causing your clicksedwardb wrote: - Install Cakewalk Sonar 5 producer edition (wdm driver).

In my experience, WDM drivers are the best and most rock-solid drivers, especially with Sonar. I have been able to run all sorts of WDM based applications simultaneously while Sonar is running with little problem

Re: Shame? Spamming?
I didn't call it "spamming" and yes, it isn't technically spamming nor did any of us really think it was... someone just failed to get their terminology just right, but the point was that you can post your thread and then leave it be and not keep posting the same thing again. I suppose "flooding" would be the closest term and since there was only one redundant posting it wasn't all that bad... even if it is abrasive.calaveras wrote:In defense of the original poster, I don't think posting a grievance about MOTU hardware in the (unofficial) MOTU forum is really spamming. I'm the one that called it "spamming", and I'm a little surprised to see this turn into a semantics argument. I work in the computer industry, and my friends and I use the term "spam" to describe any unwanted information, not just unsolicited commercial email. I realize this isn't the original definition but I think my point was clear.

Your point was crystal clear and your meaning was clear to me and I'm sure anyone else who read it.john jeffers wrote:I'm the one that called it "spamming", and I'm a little surprised to see this turn into a semantics argument. I'm closing off this thread now as it was a duplicate. The original post will be open if people want to discuss this more.
