828 Mk3 Firewire stopped working

Post by Floyd Pepper »

After a long chain of events my 828 Mk3 Firewire is now causing the DAW to stutter and has no sound comping out.

The 828 was working fine until I set it up as a stand alone ADAT converter then went through the following chain of events
1) Factory reset (as it seemed easiest way to put back into standard mode)
2) The factory reset left it with firmware in V1.01
3) I applied the firmware patch to take it to V1.06
4) Windows 10 installed several OS patchs
5) CueMix can see the 828. DAW can see the 828
6) No sounds comes out of any port on 828 from any source (DAW, sound editors)
7) Uninstalled and reinstalled the MOTU drivers
8 ) CueMix can see the 828. DAW can see the 828
9) No sounds comes out of any port on 828 from any source
10) Swapped firewire ports on 828 and PC. Still nothing.
11) Increased sample size to max. Still nothing.

Current status is DAWs play audio fine out of the computer's built in sound card with AISO4ALL driver. If I switch to the 828 either via the Windows standard audio driver or AISO driver the DAW timeline stutters (it plays, stops, plays, stops) and no sound comes out of the 828. Also CueMix never shows any sound and the LEDs on the 828 never show any sound.

I've only got 1 Firewire cable. I've tried both Firewire ports on my computer and the 828. I don't have access to another computer with Firewire.

Is there a way of testing the MOTU or CuMix or the drivers so I can see where the fault is?

Thanks

It should still work in stand alone mode as a converter, yes?

If so, it probably works. I’d get into the manual and go slowly through the setup. Unfortunately, I don’t know what you should be seeing and where if it’s Windows.

If the manual doesn’t give you the clue, give MOTU a call. These days, you’ll leave a message and someone should call you back since everyone’s working from home.
