Adjust bite gain with key commands not showing

Post by uncle dunc »

Going from DP 7.24 on OSX 10.6.8 to DP 10.11 on OSX 10.12, (sad face) bite gain changes are not
showing up in the sequence window unless activated by the bite gain fader. "Set bite gain" in the Audio menu shows up, but "increase bite gain by .5 db" and "decrease bite gain by .5db" do not change the size of the soundbite, and do not change the db reading of the soundbite, even though the bite gain is being changed. I set key commands for increase and decrease, which make the Audio menu flash, but the bite gain display in the soundbite doesn't change. Likewise in the tracks window - no change in the display, even though the bite gain has been changed.

Am I the only one dealing with this? It's a 2010 Mac Pro with two monitors. I'm using the sequence window popped out of the consolidated window, but I tried it in a new project with the sequence window in the main window and it's the same - no change in the soundbite display, even though the soundbite volume is changing.

Nevermind. The workaround works - use a key command assignment for "set bit gain", enter value, "return" and the bite gain change is shown in the soundbite display and DB reading. (It's all about using keystrokes to mitigate carpal tunnel.)

Hi. That's a step in the right direction, but there's so much more you can do about DP & your setup & technique to really alleviate your carpal tunnel (and tendonitis, for those who have it).
I was close to getting a wrist injury a year ago too, and I became obsessed with the subject until I found a range of solutions that REALLY helped me get my wrists/hands healthy and strong again.

For instance, pressing all those modifier keys for the shortcuts is NOT helping your CT. Try turning on Sticky Keys in OS Preferences to see if you like it. It takes some getting used to and it can be dangerous (you must use it with care), but it really helps not twisting or bending your wrists when using shortcuts.

Let me know if you're interested and I'll give you a list of key points with links and helpful info.
Mac Mini Server i7 2.66 GHs/16 GB RAM / OSX 10.14 / DP 9.52
Tascam DM-24, MOTU Track 16, all Spectrasonics' stuff,
Vienna Instruments SUPER PACKAGE, Waves Mercury, slaved iMac and Mac Minis running VEP 7, etc.

I'll look into Sticky Keys, but I've already customized keystrokes for most of what I do, which is mainly audio and some MIDI here and there. My issue is using the mouse. Even an ergonomic mouse gets to me after a while. For example, in the Sequence window, working on an individual track, one must press and hold the mouse to toggle between the soundbites view, the volume view, the pitch view, etc. or to insert a volume automation data point. It would be nice to have keystrokes for that. I've been thinking I should look into Apple Script...
