MIDI Undo Bug....Has anyone solved this?

Post by Winslow Schiller »

Just 'upgraded' to 10.11 and I'm dealing with the MIDI Undo bug. Whether or not I can undo MIDI edits is a total crap shoot. Sometimes it works; it seems like mostly it doesn't. Has anyone figured it out? - Winslow

After reading this yesterday, I created my first DP project on my Catalina test machine, a 2012 MBP.

I saved right before editing MIDI so that, if I had a problem, I could revert. I had to Undo MIDI Record a couple of times but that went off without a hitch.

Make sure it's not a red herring. I have had no trouble undoing MIDI edits, but the Undo Menu often has the wrong command name. Redo doesn't seem to have this issue as much. I don't remember what triggers it as I don't see it constantly, just occasionally. But it can confuse me if I'm looking at the wrong feature based on the name of the Undo command as I step backwards. Luckily I usually only do Undo right after trying something(s) out, so I generally figure out which actual command got undone. And I think I first started noticing this issue with the previous update.

I was working in SampleTank 3 this evening on my Mojave machine, hit Undo for some notes I was editing and it crashed DP big time. When I brought it back up, my piano track was a total mess. Fortunately, rolling back to the prior Time Machine Snapshot brought me back to square one.

Having heard that SampleTank 4 CS, the free version, will load my older paid libraries, I downloaded it — and it works great.

I’m fairly sure that ST3 was the problem since that same file gave me no grief then I had UVI loaded on my Catalina MBP.

Thanks for the replies. Saving after each edit makes sense, I suppose.

True but I hadn't saved in awhile. Fortunately, I found a Snapshot that was less about 45 minutes old. If you don't know about this yet and are running High Sierra or later, this is way cool.

This helped.

Hey Blake,

Thanks for reaching out to us. This could be the result of a corruption, especially if the behavior seems intermittent. I have a few suggestions that could help:

- Test in other projects

- I'd also recommend removing DP's preferences in case of corruption. To do so, quit Digital Performer. Click the ‘Go’ drop down menu from Finder while holding the ‘option’ key and select ‘Library’. Go to the Preferences folder. Drag the ‘com.motu.DigitalPerformer’ and 'com.motu.MotuAudioSystem' folders to the desktop and run DP. Let me know whether this helps or not.

Best,
Matt
