Can't drag notes between tracks in 10.11!
Unless I'm missing something obvious, this is a very fundamental issue in 10.11: I can't drag notes from one track to another in the Sequence editor! It's that simple - nothing more to say except it renders it almost unusable for me.

Yep. Same here. I haven't tried it since the last update. Soundbites drag fine.

My workaround is to cut (or copy the notes. Don’t change the selection times unless you want to move them to a different time, select the destination track and paste.

OR: Make the selection, "Pack into Clips" and Option-drag away.

You can drag in Tracks Overview... select notes in Sequence, then drag in Tracks.
Re: Can't drag notes between tracks in 10.11!
OK, great suggestions and workarounds, which I shall put into practice immediately. (Clips, huh? Hmm...). But... I really shouldn’t have to change what's been working flawlessly for me for years, should I?
Thanks, guys.
Thanks, guys.

Re: Can't drag notes between tracks in 10.11!
That's the one - and of course I knew I could do this all along, I'd just forgotten! Copy and paste works, but it's just a bit more clumsy and click-intensive.HCMarkus wrote:You can drag in Tracks Overview... select notes in Sequence, then drag in Tracks.
Unless I'm misunderstanding this, having never used clips before, this doesn't do it at all. Well, it does make the copy, but if I select, say, three notes in a couple of bars, packing them into a clip seems to obliterate all the other notes that are going on in that period, so when I unpack the clip they're all gone! Unless, as I say, I'm doing this wrong.cuttime wrote:OR: Make the selection, "Pack into Clips" and Option-drag away.

In the SE, if you grab the note and move up or down, the MIDI track will scroll notes to the top or bottom. If you keep dragging past the track boundary, the notes will snap back to their original view position and you can drop the note or notes in another track.

Re: Can't drag notes between tracks in 10.11!
Nope. That's how it always used to be, but not any more in 10.11 - it just goes to the track boundary and dumps the note at C-2 or G8, depending on which way you're dragging.CharlzS wrote:In the SE, if you grab the note and move up or down, the MIDI track will scroll notes to the top or bottom. I've reported this to MOTU and they agree it's as I'm describing. They offer the exact same three workarounds you other guys have offered here.

Re: Can't drag notes between tracks in 10.11!
It must have something to do machine/OS/DP config because it works fine here on both PC and Mac with DP 10.11.
I also have Performer Lite 10.12 installed, but don't know how much, if any, shared code is there. They do use the same audio engine and plug cache - maybe there's more.

Re: Can't drag notes between tracks in 10.11!
Dragging MIDI between tracks in the SE on my MBP (see sig) is working. But it seems to take a lot longer than in earlier versions for DP to decide you want the notes to move to the new track. It takes 2-3 seconds for the box around the notes to appear in the new track. During that time, you are likely to move them and start the whole process over again. Playing around with this, I found the delay disappears if I move the notes very quickly. It's as if DP thinks if you move slowly you're not really trying to get to another track.
Near the start of the DP 10 threads, there were observations that shift dragging notes (to keep the timing in place) was not working well. The timing between pressing the shift key, and moving the notes seems to be really fussy and the result is unreliable. If i work at it, I can get it to work, but it's easier to get around this with relative snap turned on, and pay close attention to the timing of the first note being moved.
I doubt it has anything to do with having DP Lite installed. There will be lots of people who have one or the other, but not both. But we know that having multiple versions of DP installed causes a number of problems. I only have DP 10 installed.

Yes, I reported this exact issue the first week DP10 was released. MOTU Support confirmed and said it would be fixed in a future update. Of course we're still waiting for that...in the mean time the recommended workarounds, while not as elegant, haven't been all that tough for me to integrate. Now, if it ever does get fixed it will feel like a handy new-feature to me!csansom wrote:I've reported this to MOTU and they agree it's as I'm describing. Re: Can't drag notes between tracks in 10.11!
Ok, so try this (sounds weird, but works on my system).
Instead of dragging up or down to the destination track, drag to the left over the track name area. Then drag to the desired location, then release the mouse.
So if you are moving data down a track it's
select
click and hold
drag left (until the left panel is highlighted-this is important)
drag down
drag right
release
This is working for me. YMMV
Your friendly neighborhood Phil
[edit] If the first note of your selection is not on a grid line, turn on snap to grid and add a temporary note just ahead of your data. This gives you a note to snap to the grid in the destination track.
