I recently bought an Antelope Discreet 8 that sounded great and worked beautifully until it didn't.
Right after installing a security update to OS 10.11.6 DP, Audio MIDI Setup, and System Prefs Audio Output no longer the D8. The Antelope CP sees and can configure it, the system profile identifies it, but not any audio apps at all. I reinstalled the drivers and launcher, repaired permissions, restarted the Mac and the D8. Nada. Per Antelope's suggestion, I even rolled back my OS via Time Machine Restore to a state before the update. Still nothing (so the security update factor might be a red herring). Also, my laptop with 11.13 sees it, but not my work MP.
Just thought I'd post here in case anyone had any ideas.
I was on the fence whether to get the D8 or a 828es. I have no need for all the monitoring capabilities of the 828es and a lot of need for 8 quality ADs so the D8 made more sense. That might have been a mistake. An I/O is only as good as it's drivers. I'm beginning to think the Antelope Discrete's are not quite ready for pro work.

Re: Lost USB connectivity
One easy test: create. New user and log into that account (better yet, boot into that account) to see if there is a conflict with your currently installed extensions. You might need to reinstall the driver).

Re: Lost USB connectivity
Good idea. Thanks!
However, in the interim I stumbled on a solution. What seems to have fixed it is was messing around with ProTools Aggregate I/O in the Audio MIDI Setup. I noticed that the DISCRETE 8 was listed within PTA I/O panel. I selected it there and I think that woke everything up. ...weird, but okay.

Re: Lost USB connectivity
I just purchased a Discrete 8 Synergy core and I am having major issues- if I go from my Apogee AD16 directly in to the Antelope I see audio, but DP doesn't see the signal. If i go from the Apogee to the 2408 and THEN into the discreet 8, DP sees signal but the Discreet 8 does not. Any ideas??

Re: Lost USB connectivity
Sorry, I jettisoned the D8 soon after I posted this in 2018. The lower end Antelope stuff sound good, but seem rather prosumer. I never was able to get the D8 to behave. ...I don't quite understand why you're doing all this routing, but having the D8 in the mix can't be helping.
