Strange UAD DP problem

Post by jim2b »

Hi Folks,

This problem just started.
I have many UAD plug-ins and they have always worked fine.

Lately, Capitol Chambers, and Neve 1073 overload the processor @512k buffer, but not 256k or 1024k.

I use the UAD2 solo, and a FireWire quad satellite.
The numbers in the UAD configuration page look fine.

Could this be a DP problem, and has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks in advance,

Jim

You are running a really old version of DP (32-bit), on Sierra, using
a FireWire UA device. That’s a recipe for things
going wrong for sure.

Your particular Mac can run at 64-bit, you’re on Sierra so
the first thing I’d do is get DP10 and install it.

I think your issue is system specific, not an issue common to DP and as a
UA user myself, I’ve never encountered this kind of problem. I’d recommend calling
UA tech support.

Hi David,

Thanks for replying.

I’m actually running 64 bit.

I’ve been speaking with UA, and tried the first solution. De- install the UAD software, trash prefs, ad reboot. That didn’t fix it.

I’m hoping that maybe someone here has had this experience.

I can work around the problem.

Thanks again,

Jim

I too, have noticed that same issue with Capitol Chambers. At 512k Capitol Chambers can get funky, but not always. It could be track count, but it's certainly not plugin count. I have plenty of reserve power in the UAD gas tank! Moving to 256k or 1024k and the issue goes away. I haven't had that problem with either the Legacy or newer 1073, or any other UA plug.
It could be a certain configuration of the Chambers? I will ask the UAD folks at NAMM on Thursday. They might have a clue. I'll report back.

I get a similar issue once in a while with Manley Massive UAD Eq... can be any buffer setting but it totally maxes out my system... but only sporadically... and I have the latest of everything on my MacBook Pro 2018....

Thanks for you reply.

It’s very helpful to know that this is a known issue.

Hello everyone,
Back from Day 1 at NAMM. I was able to speak with a UA sales person. According to him, no UA engineers were there. I mentioned the issue with Capitol Chambers and Manley Massive. He said that he hadn't heard anything, but that it was certainly worth bringing up on the UA Facebook page, as well as the UA discussion group.
I think we'll need to push this one on our own in order to find something resembling an explanation.

Hi!

This sounds very familiar. I use Ocean Way Studios for room verb, and if it’s inserted on an aux channel on the far right of the mixer, I get overloads. I called UA and went back and forth about this. Moving said aux channel to the far left, 1st channel position if you will, solves this problem. UA claimed its the way DP handles resources.

Hi Folks,

Moving the aux position in the mixer doesn’t work for me.

I’ll keep looking and trying new solutions. As for now, working @256 or 1024 is fine.

Thanks for the feedback.

Let me know if any other solutions pop up.
