I recently inherited a Ultralite mk3. I plugged it in via USB to my 2011 MacBook Pro, and straight away found the unit in my preferences both in the OS and in my DAW. However, sound is not coming out the headphones.
Looking for drivers I found and downloaded the MOTU PCI Audio Setup program. Once installed, I open this program and it opens to say "No MOTU PCI Card Found".
I downloaded and installed firmware updates to the unit itself.
I'm currently running Mojave 10.14.6.
What might I be missing?

An Ultralite mk3 is not a PCI card. That's why.
You need to download the correct audio drivers.

Re: PCI Audio Setup doesn't read sound card
The driver applicable for this soundcard (I believe) has been downloaded and installed:
UltraLite MK3 hybrid
"All versions compatible with Mac OS X 10.6.8 - 10.14.x"
MOTU Audio Installer v1.6.73220 (Release Date 2017-07-01)
Still, when I select the soundcard through my preferences, no sound comes through the headphones.
I'm guessing I'm missing a step.

Try the new one v1.6.83634 | Jan. 2, 2020
There are many reports that it works over Mojave.

Unfortunately this hasn't brought success.
Is a secondary program required to setup the audio routing? I know this is the case with some other sound cards.

You need to set the default output in MOTU Audio Setup to the headphone out. The, go to Mac System Preferences and set your output to the MOTU and by default your system should output to the headphones. What DAW are you using?
