The wave form I'm seeing is not what I'm hearing.

Post by PDGood »

This is an odd one. I have a bass part and two guitars playing an identical rhythm. What I'm hearing is correct, but the wave form I'm seeing on the first guitar track (named CBG 1) is completely wrong. In fact, there's one place where there's a gap and the bass and both guitars stop playing completely yet the wave form on CBG 1 continues. The only instrument playing in that gap area is the drums (MIDI) so I guess somehow an audio representation of the MIDI drum track is what I'm seeing there. That sounds crazy but I have no other ideas.

Can anyone suggest what might be happening here? In one place in the song I need to edit CBG 1, but that's impossible since the wave form doesn't match reality.

P.S. I tried to upload an image without luck.

I'd start by selecting the waveform in the sequence editor (or elsewhere) and hitting opt-spacebar (or is it cmd-space bar?) to play the selection. What are you hearing? Also, try closing the window with the waveform and double clicking on it in the TRACKS OVERVIEW window to refresh the view. Sometimes you can have a SE from another chunk persist I.E. - You're playing one chunk but watching another.

I think you're right about it playing one thing and watching another. I tried refreshing without luck, but then remembered I got a message upon opening the file - something about unable to locate soundbites. So I deleted unused soundbites and rebooted and that seems to have it working for the moment. If I find trouble again I'll post another comment but otherwise I'm calling this one fixed.

Thanks for your help!! (And by the way it was Option Spacebar to play the waveform.)
