LA2A Leveler Question Ultralite Mk4

I am new to this unit, and it is quite a steep learning curve in the mixing matrix thing. My question is about the leveler.

I see I can add it to a subgroup (not a track input), then route an input into that subgroup to affect and pass thru the leveler, but I don't know how to set it to simply be for monitoring, or if I can record the signal with the leveler included.

I have managed to do this with the reverb bus, but it seems to different with the leveler.
Thanks in advance! And if you know this answer, please explain it to me like I'm five years old. I find it very confusing!
