Cubase 10.5 fails to output audio through 828es

Post by ACJJ »

Hello there,

828es and 16A connected via AVB network (single cable) and to computer via USB.
Windows 10.
Cubase 10.5
Also MOTU MIDI Express XT.
Various hardware synths, hardware effects and hardware drum machine and samplers.

All inputs, outputs and monitoring work fine when MOTU audio interfaces are used as stand-alone mixer. Express XT also solid and working as expected.
Computer finds hardware in Discovery and MOTU mixer works as expected within windows: routing, monitoring etc.

In Cubase, when a generic driver is selected, Cubase registers signal levels (internal instruments, audio files etc) and outputs sound to the computer's internal speakers and headphone O/P- completely normal operation.
When the driver is switched to MOTU Pro Audio, Cubase stops registering audio on it's meters for both incoming and outgoing signals, and (obviously) there is no audio heard from MOTU 828es hardware outputs, nor does it register in the MOTU webapp mixer.

I have had various elements of this system working at various times over the last year but it has never functioned correctly stand-alone AND in Cubase.
All firmware, drivers, DAW software updates have been applied. Hardware factory defaults initiated and the system is now just the 828es and the computer. I used to be really good at this stuff but I'm lost and starting to feel rather beaten.

Please can anyone assist me? I'm quite happy to be made to look like a duffer because I've missed something obvious.

Thanks very much in advance for anyone's input, however obvious it might seem.

Kind regards

ACJJ

I need help with this too...

Not only am i getting no sound/metering in Cubase as you say, but i cant even get windows sounds (youtube, spotify ect...) to play! Ive upgraded from an old 828mk2 firewire and that worked perfectly on this system...

Any help/tips/info would be very welcome...

Hi all,
New user so thanks for having me! Looked at this post with interest as I am about to by a new PC (Windows 10, Cubase 10.5) and am looking at getting 2 x MOTU 16A to replace my Yamaho O2R and RME Hammerfall DSP (PCI) card. My old computer died (was running windows XP and Cubase SX3....so has done pretty well)!
Seeing quite a few posts about issues with windows 10 and cubase 10.5 with the MOTU interfaces. Did this thread get solved? Would anyone recommend against this seup and can they provide alternatives?
Many thanks

I'm not able to assist directly (Mac guy), but would encourage you to reach out to MOTU on this issue. Perhaps someone will chime in with an answer here, but y'all might as well attack the issue on multiple fronts. Here's to your getting it resolved!

No solutions yet?

I have a similar problem, just installed Cubase 11 tonight. But Cubase 11 does NOT see MOTU audio drivers.

Motu drivers are installed, tested, and working. The are in the sound panel of Windows 10 Control Panel as "Motu Pro Audio", set as Default Device.
Other Software uses the MOTU drivers without problems. Even YouTube. Not Cubase 11. It uses "Generic Low Latency ASIO driver" - the ONLY driver showing up in the Audio Connections for Outputs. So Cubase 11 is sending the sound through the computer speakers, not the Motu 828es Audio InterFace!

I have rebooted and started the MOTU Pro Audio Control BEFORE firing up Cubase 11.

I am on the latest version of Windows 10, and use a Thunderbolt connection to the 828es.

Anyone who has soved this problem please help!

Judging from lack of past responses, probable best place to search would be a Cuebase forum. Or get a Techlnk going with MOTU.

Folks around here tend to be DP users.
