blue. Even this lower cap aside is really, really BIG news. So far MOTU has not even acknowledged that PCI-E is in the pipeline. Why do you say they're working on it? Did someone at MOTU actually say this? When will it ship? This month? This year?
i seem to recall magic dave saying something about 1st quarter, though he may have been talking about dp5.
....however this does interest me: "-input mode on mix page". This mean we won't have to dig around in the sub-sub menu to change to hardware thru-put monitor?
the input button is for monitoring live signals through tracks without record-enabling them. so you could do away with some of those aux tracks.

Did MD discuss distributed processing for DP5, a la Logic's nodes?

Any new/imporoved plug ins?

And what about these 'inbuilt soft synths/ samplers' - more details?

BTW I'm glad the logo's changed, to include a bit of colour.

Don't suppose Freeze tracks has been improved....???

Keep the info coming - Thanks! :D

Not having used them before, I'm ignorant to the point of track folders. Could one of you guys explain how they are used? I'm all for improvements; I just do not understand this one. Thanks,

One use might be when scoring MIDI for large orchestral libraries when, say, 5 MIDI tracks might be used for just one violin part (using several programs of different articulations).

So add the rest of the orchestra/ensemble and those MIDI tracks start to add up and folders would be a way of storing all violin MIDI tracks in one ...er... violin tracks folder so you could stop your TO window from being 3 screens high.

Obviously, Seq editor and Graphic editor have show /hide option now anyway. But I suppose it could be used alongside that feature too.

I'm not sure if I would use it or not, I always liked the fact that tracks can't hide in TO- I thought that was the point!

But I'll give it a go see if I like it ... :D I'm sure it'll be the kind of feature which is not there if you don't want it, anyway, I say bring it on.

Folders is something I've been waiting to get for so long. Mainly because, when I am writing MIDI (or recording), I'm doing a lot of rearranging and editing. Given that all my hardware synths are monitored through effects, and given I have 26 inputs coming in, that's 13 tracks I really don't always need to see. Now granted, I am not always using 13, but I do have at least 9 of them going. Then when you need to select regions and drag around, yeah, it can get a little messy if I'm not careful.

What I'd really like to hear is the bounce/freeze operations getting faster. This has bothered me for some time. That single improvement would get me using the freeze option more, but making a change to a synth line, then waiting five minutes to freeze it, that really slows down productivity.

I am REALLY curious about the VIs that are now included. I am thinking, it must be MX1, MX2, MX3 AND Mach1, Mach2, Mach3, and Mach4. :)

It would indeed - that and the soft synths would most likely make me switch back from Logic

i guess it depends on the instruments. I would like to see mx4 and Mach5 bundled with DP5.

That's sort of like saying you'd like to see ham and cheese bundled with your bread. It may all come from Kraft, but they will only sell it seperately. I can think of a million other analogies, but poilitcal comments are verboten on this board. Of course, you CAn get a ham & cheese sandwhich at many places, but you end up paying for three times what it costs for the components alone. I am sure the same would hold true for the bundled price of DP, M5 & MX4.

Now, did you want that sandwhich dual core? Or single processor?

uhh. i'll gladly pay a 299 uprade fee to include my ham and cheese in my sandwich . like I did with 5.0 to logic pro 7.1 upgrade ! which comes with a sampler and a virtual analog synth and + many more VI and au toppings which were all pay for garnishings previously.

Because Apple offered that upgrade i switched to logic for composing and recording. But I still arrange audio and mix everything in DP

my previous sampler VI and virtual analog VI , Unity Sessions stopped working in DP, and they went out of business, SOL sorry.

I would like to come back to DP for composing but im not going to pay $700 for the two audio instruments that really should be included in the sandwich. especially when i can buy an akai Z series sampler for $350 new.

They toss in an efficient sampler similar to the EXS 24 and I am in. Mach 5 is too much of an hog IMO.

I'd rather use Kontakt 2
DP 6.02
Quad 3.0 Ghz, 8.0 GB RAM, 2 - 1TB HD, 5 - 500GB HD's (RAID)
MOTU HD192, 2408mk3, Microlite, UAD-1, UAD-2, Powercore, Lavry Blue AD/DA convertor, LA-610
Euphonix MC Control

29 years in this business and counting.....Loving every minute of it.....

While we're at it, it would also be nice to be able to scrub audio with the wiper at the same time you scrub MIDI (as in the sequence and track editors). Oh please, oh please, oh please...

(Can I get some mayo with that?)
