Same, I've periodically run tests of the various DAWs I own, and DP 9 and 10 are neck and neck with Logic X.bayswater wrote:With DP 8 versus Logic 9 there was a very big difference. Come On DP.... You can do this!
Hope the new update fixes the CPU connection.

Imagine that! Last year - big reveal of DP10 - "You get... Clips!"MW1 wrote:If by any chance Performer Lite is a glimpse of a much needed DP refresh, I wouldn't be surprised if MOTU waited for the upcoming NAMM show to make any significant announcement to that effect.
Perhaps, in the meantime, they will release an interim update with some bug fixes - i.e VCA faders that actually work as intended...
This year - big reveal of... Dp 10.02 - "Complete modernization and redesign of Digital Performer!" (I'm exaggerating, of course).

To be fair to MOTU, clips is something people use, though perhaps not those who hang around here. And its not just MOTU. Logic 10.4 -- stuff like dark mode, new drummers with cool names, and a load of bugs. Updates 10.4.1 to 10.4.7, a million bug fixes they actually listed. Not unlike iOS 13 or OS X (insert version here). Paid updates are driven by finance, not engineering. The two don't always work to the same schedule.toddbooster wrote:Imagine that! It's not unprecedented. DP7's feature list at 7.0 was so so, the update was much better, and concentrated on UX improvements.toddbooster wrote: Imagine that! Last year - big reveal of DP10 - "You get... Clips!"

I know you're exaggerating for comic effect but the Search Command feature is enough to have me sold alone. I've often looked at DP and other DAWs with massive commands lists and thought it's nice, but who learns 2-500 key commands? That its search and execute, is brilliant, puts it miles above the nearest competition.
Plus the new time stretch features, DP's to put it mildly sucked previous to 10.

Oh, I'm not complaining about the clips. I own and use Live 10 from time to time. It was just left-field, in a kinda "Well, I didn't see that coming" kinda way.bayswater wrote:To be fair to MOTU, clips is something people use, though perhaps not those who hang around here. And it's not without precedent, no. It's not nearly as strange as "Here's Reason 11. It's exactly the same, only now, you don't need to use it!" for instance.
Edit I should add that I don't use a Mac, so I'm not versed in the machinations of Apple and what they release in point versions for Logic.
What I am accustomed to is the Cubase model, with yearly paid major versions with gobs of features (which admittedly don't always seem to work:)).

Re: MOTU to drop DP update soon!
So a pretty decent picture of Performer Lite is up at MOTU, and this is my guess on what's happening here. Clips are coming to the Arrangement pages of DP as MIDI regions or objects etc. So it seems we will get some sort of region based editing in DP.

Total agreement, I'm very happy Clips came to DP, but I was extremely surprised as well.toddbooster wrote: Oh, I'm not complaining about the clips. I own and use Live 10 from time to time. It was just left-field, in a kinda "Well, I didn't see that coming" kinda way.

Reason 11 is a huge disappointment so far. Does it run on DP Windows? It doesn't show up in DP on OS X except in the plug in preferences, as passed evaluation..

This little online information about Cubase's constant struggle for stability plus it not being as robust time signature wise as DP keeps me from too much jealousy about MPE support, Expression maps, and better export options.Edit I should add that I don't use a Mac, so I'm not versed in the machinations of Apple and what they release in point versions for Logic.

Re: MOTU to drop DP update soon!
I think it looks better. They're stealing from Logic, Studio One, and Live, I like it. I really don't like using MIDI editors in sub windows, but I doubt DP would ever make it as annoying to break out as Logic is that way.bayswater wrote:It's beginning to look a lot like Logic (sung to the tune of you-know-what).

Re: MOTU to drop DP update soon!
It does seem to run just fine in DP Windows. I have only used the Reason 11 trial so far though. If I ever do upgrade from Reason 10, it won't be until there's a big sale on.Michael Canavan wrote: Reason 11 is a huge disappointment so far. Does it run on DP Windows? The Sweetwater review of the new interfaces also discusses Performer Lite starting around 4:30. It doesn't show those new MIDI regions, but it has some clearer views of the UI.Michael Canavan wrote:I think it looks better. They're stealing from Logic, Studio One, and Live, I like it. I've been very glad to have Reason as a plugin, but I can't use it in VEP yet. Reason (Studios) hasn't released the AU version, and VEP doesn't support VST3...ARGH!!Michael Canavan wrote:toddbooster wrote: Reason 11 is a huge disappointment so far.

Maybe I'm out of the loop, but what is this "Clips" you're speaking of? The clipping Window has been working fine for many versions, no problems. I skipped 10.0.0, though, was it broken there and got fixed in 10.0.1? Not sure I'm following. How is the clipping window like Logic?

Re: MOTU to drop DP update soon!
So, so far it seems that what's going on might be a global command, just a guess, but all screenshots either show Clips or regular MIDI tracks, not together in the same Sequence window. Hurry up and wait to find out the way it actually works..lydian91 wrote: The Sweetwater review of the new interfaces also discusses Performer Lite starting around 4:30. Clever bastards, looking at VEP 7 you would think they hosted VST3 plug ins because of all the talk about VST3 VEP plug ins for your DAW...I've been very glad to have Reason as a plugin, but I can't use it in VEP yet. Would it be appropriate to ask why registered DP owners can't get their hands on PLite? It sure would end a lot of speculation. Yes, it's a rhetorical question.
Also, is Plite only available with the M2 and M4?
