TWO 828MK2 - BUT DP ONLY RECOGNISING ONE

Post by SMOOGHEAD »

Hi

I'm a newbie to this forum but been using Digital Performer since version 4 and I bought an 828Mk2 in the late 2000s and am still using it, now with DP 9.51 and Mac OSX 10.13.6. The Mac is a MacPro - late 2010 model with a 3.46GHz 6-core Intel Xeon processor and 40Gb memory. I've had few problems until earlier this week when I decided to add another 828Mk2 in order to expand the studio recording capability.

I also have a MOTU MTP AV for MIDI, connected via USB to the same Mac.

So I now have 2 x 828Mk2s. Both appear to be working OK from the analogue point of view. Digitally, MOTU Audio Setup recognises both 828s - one as #1 and the second as #2. #1 is connected via Firewire to the Mac. #2 is connected to #1 also by firewire, and as shown in the 828 manual, #1 Word Clock Out is connected to #2 Word Clock In. However there are a few problems:
- DP recognizes 828#2 inputs only, or 828#1 inputs only, never both.
- when DP starts up, it changes the sampling rate settings and sometimes the clock settings.
- I have tried both 828s set to 48000 and 96000 but doesnt seem to make any difference.

I suspect the issue is in the clock settings but this is doing my head in which is why I've posted here. Any help would be very welcome, thanks.

Regards

SMOOG

Go to Configure Hardware driver and shift click on the second 828 and see if that helps

Thanks. That has stopped DP resetting the clock on one of the units every time it starts, but I can still see only one 828.

When I switch the second 828 to 96000 the MIDI out light comes on. I have no idea if its connected but thought I should share.

I've also reconnected the 828s using separate Firewire cables rather than both through one cable then into the other. Its made no difference.

OK look at Audio MIDI Setup, and MOTU Audio Setup. See if there is something there that you
need to hook up. I have multiple MOTU interfaces and I can get them to work together, most
of the time it's just 2 so I have not needed to do word clock. Keep poking at them.

Fixed thanks to MOTU tech help. Simple fix is to highlight both 828s in the Configure Hardware Driver window. Both 828s show up in DP after that. Simple fix which I thought I should share. Thanks to MOTU Tech Support.
