Mojave & MIDI XT

Post by DARKMATTER »

I’m configuring a new iMac for use with PT. Encountered a problem with MIDI XT interface, and followed all the steps outlined on MOTU website - security prefs etc. Mac Audio/MIDI setup still fails to recognize hardware. Same with MOTU Discovery.
Tested that cable works for other hardware.

Help!

The issue I encountered was not that it did not see it entirely, but rather that it "logjammed" the MIDI messages. Working with MOTU tech support, we discovered that the MIDI Xpress XT does not like USB3. I had to purchase a USB2 hub to plug it into that then was plugged into my USB3 ports. After doing that everything worked fine.

The unit seems to dislike USB3. On my unit, though it sported USB2 "lookalike" ports with their black vs blue connectors, in actuality all the USB ports on that machine fed to a USB3 Host, and clearly did a poor job emulating USB2 sufficiently.

Being that this is a new box you are configuring, I would not hesitate to guess that it is working similarly with a USB3 Host as its driver for all ports.
