I've been making encrypted copies of files to go off site. Encryption produced warnings about characters in file names not supported in Windows that are not supported on all platforms, so I decided to Zip the folders before copying to avoid having to reply to these warning.
For some large zips, the progress bar froze just before completion, although the zip file was create. It was possible to unzip and reproduce the original files, but there were small differences in the overall folder size. I can't see anything wrong with the files, but I don't trust the result.
I did the operation over again with Archive Utility and got expected results.
Are there any known issues with Zip utility in OS X (High Sierra)? I'm not likely to trust it again.

Yes. Though I thought it was finally fixed by 10.13.6, I was never confident that it had been.bayswater wrote: Are there any known issues with Zip utility in OS X (High Sierra)? I'm not likely to trust it again.
It was Eventide Support that gave me the heads-up when I was having unzip issues. The folder and contents would look fine but I would get file not found errors when I attempted to use (whatever). They recommended keka.app open source and it fixed me up.

Not everyone experienced this and always posted such when I mentioned the problem as I did in more than thread.
Besides Eventide, MasterWriter and many others, PSP licensing files gave me grief. When I tried to report the problem and solution, they insisted they'd never heard of it. Oh well...
I've not experienced it in Mojave.

Re: Errors with ZIP
The built-in Mac Archive Utility refused to unzip DMS Ascension (WA Production Edition) earlier this year when I bought it.
My ticket with support went on for a month and a half. Finally I tried Keka, having known about it for a long time but not getting around to downloading it. Problem solved.
High Sierra 10.13.6.

Re: Errors with ZIP
Yes, I had heard about problems unzipping. It was never clear to me whether that was a problem at the zipper's end or at the unzipper's end. I never had problems unzipping earlier. Now I've see the problem at the zipper's end, I guess it applies to both ends.
As for being fixed in 10.13.6, there have been a some supplemental updates, and maybe one of them put the problem back in.

Re: Errors with ZIP
Neither the built-in Mac utility nor The Unarchiver, which I've always sworn by, worked, cuttime.
Using The Unarchiver's ability to ignore errors and persist with expansion, I ended up with an undersized result (much smaller than the .zip itself).
The Mac's built-in utility simply refused to proceed, saying something to the effect of "couldn't find file" IIRC.
So far, in many years of using The Unarchiver, this was the only instance in which an alternate app was able to expand an archive error-free when TU couldn't.
