Not having MP3 as an export in DP 9 and 10 really suck, and
Pros output Bwav .wav and send mp3's to the artists and A&R in emails.
Emails that carry 10-15meg depending on server not 30-100 meg for a .wav file. You guys have got to put mp3 back in, cause right now, having to go to PT or Studio one to import the wav files from DP to beable to spit out MP3's is a total waste of time and a pain in the ass. Some of Us that really like Dp over the other DAW, can't work without MP3. I now they sound like ••••, but that is where we are at.

I just successfully exported a LAME mp3 with DP 10. Perhaps you need to reinstall DP 10.

Re: Not having MP3 as an export in DP 9 and 10 really suck,
I recall I had to install the L.A.M.E. library separately from the DP install (from a 3rd party site).
Once I installed it, I never had to do anything differently.
Perhaps the DP installer now includes a LAME version?

Re: Not having MP3 as an export in DP 9 and 10 really suck,
Be careful what you wish for. I make mp3 mixes for my clients as a matter of course except I use Dropbox so that they can download individual tracks, alternate mixes etc. so that decisions can be made—much better than email.
Variable bit rate (VBR) mp3 gives the best fidelity vs file size, IMO. The resulting file sizes are larger than 128, however. Anyway, I normally bounce large projects at once.
Bouncing a 2 hour DP project to VBR mp3 takes me over 45 minutes which is unacceptable. Obviously, if you’re bouncing 5 minute songs, you will barely notice the extra time. But, when Time=Money, it makes sense to explore alternates.
Using any file converter including iTunes takes around 5 minutes for a 2 hour project. Apple uses its own version of the LAME framework as does TwistedWave, my file converter of choice. I have other apps such as DSP-Quattro that I can use.
When DP 8 came out, I auditioned a number of LAME builds and installed the framework that sounded best to me. DP 10 is still showing it in my drop-down even though I no longer use it. When I get on my iMac, I’ll look it up.

That's a good question. I haven't installed the LAME codec (separately) in several years.. am I up to date? How does one know?stubbsonic wrote:I recall I had to install the L.A.M.E. library separately from the DP install (from a 3rd party site).

Re: Not having MP3 as an export in DP 9 and 10 really suck,
I think that DP included LAME since the mid 9.x releases or sooner. Definitely included in 10. In the Help Menu it is listed in Open Source and Third Party Credits. MP3 went public domain a couple of years ago - no tribute paid.

Re: Not having MP3 as an export in DP 9 and 10 really suck,
How soon we forget — myself included. The title should have told us the solution since there are multiple threads on this — but that was so last year.
A DP 10 installation removes some BTD options from DP 9 including LAME. To restore, you need to reinstall 9.52. This will remove LAME from DP 10 until you reinstall 10.01 which will remove it from 9.52...
It's the Shared Resources being overwritten issue. Without having 9.52 and 10.01 installed on separate partitions or boot drives, I know of no way to fix this. Since I have now committed to 10.01, I don't consider it broken.
The LAME framework that I installed for DP 8 and that I remember seeing in 9.51 is no longer installed on my system. The options in the drop-down for 10.01 no longer list version numbers as they had in the past. I can only assume that what I'm seeing installed with 10.01.
I don't have time this morning to research further.

Re: Not having MP3 as an export in DP 9 and 10 really suck,
I'm going to mention a service I use that I upload full-size WAV files to and it automatically creates the 320kbps mp3 files for me (with a streaming player built-in) and lets me edit their metadata there. Both formats become (optionally set by you) available for download by your client(s). It costs me about $11/mo for unlimited uploads. They have a free version as well for you to get a taste of it. Has commenting built-in and you can make files public or private/unlisted, even specifying special groups to receive notifications. The full version even provides embed code you can place on a hidden page on your website for collaborators to use to upload to the unlimited storage themselves.
