After trying DP10 midi- DP9.52 MIDI solved

Post by Timeline »

I tried reloading 9.52 which got some of it working but MIDI still out. What happens is as you play and write a VI instrument notes you are playing will lock up and hang - prevent further playing programming. HELP!

I assume you mean in the prefs folder. Yes thanks, I ditched the playlist file and no difference. I begin to play and notes begin to latch up and it all goes south. Any other clues welcomed.

Delete DP 10 and reinstall 9.52. If no love...

Remove everything DP and reinstall 9.52.

If still having trouble, create a new User Account on your Mac and run from that account.

Next time, clone before you moan. :smash:

This is kinda scary stuff.
Of course we should clone before major steps....
I'm holding on 9.5 because it is working so well.
It is a great daily driver.
Always works and no headaches.

Projects keep coming in and it does everything I need it to do.

That said, I want to keep current.

I'm very much fearing the update to 10, even with a cloned BU etc.
Is it worth it?
All is well

Erasing everything 10 was the first thing I did then reinstalled 9.52. I guess there might be residual crap from 10 in there. Why MOTU does this is beyond me but it seems they should supply an uninstall file for users who want to give 10 a try. I see no warnings on this problem. I'll call them today

There is a shared resources folder that goes back to your very first install on that computer. The last install overwrites certain files with the same name.

Simply reinstall 9.52. This will break some functionality in 10.01 till you reinstall 10 ... and back and forth.

No need to clone or delete. If you were to reinstall 7.24 after 10, you’d find that 64 bit plugins wouldn’t run till you reinstalled 8 – 10 then 32 bit only plugs would quit and so on.

Exactly right Mike. I called Andrew at MOTU and we got down to it finding it was several things, how I was routing the keyboard via direct usb and MIDI out to an MTPAV. There was issues not related to 10 apparently from pugging both midis into a usb 3 hub which caused some delay. So things were not great setup wise. Why they manifested the weird MIDI stuck notes after trying 10 was and is still a curiosity I'll never understand but its all better now. I also discussed the illegal crossfade issues and understand more why they made the changes in 10.

My solution was to add pre and post handles to work with sound bites which follow the selected sound bytes to Spectrum or a plug for modification. These extra front and end handles would remain hidden and the edit points would remain but the modded bite would allow a user to expand the audio under the original audio for making quick crossfades that would clear pops. Short crossfades would still be inaudible due to duration of the crossfades. You can do this now, although time consuming, by adding a bit of audio in front & behind an edit point, make a spectrum pitch change or plug change then edge edit and drag original audio back to original desired point. No blue "illegal fade" color would then appear as you cross fade. I think this would be better if written into the code with a user selection to set amount or length of pre-post handles. Apparently in 9 and now and in 10 if the blue cross markers appear, it does nothing and all of our fades are and have been in vein. I offered this idea as a feature request although likely deaf ears may be the result but you never know.
I admit i wondered about how they handled truncated bites but trusted the gods at MOTU on the issue. Live and learn. :-)
