Cool. That doesn't appear to be a bottleneck then. I thought you were using like 80 UA plug-ins or something– that would be part of the problem.dannyjm wrote:Hi Phil, I have two quad cores for a total of 8. The UAD meter shows about 50% processing due to all the plugins in the session. It does nothing during the btd. I have an Ampex mastering deck, a fairchild master compressor and a
EMT 250 on the master track and maybe a precision eq.

Re: how long to bounce to disk
It's easy enough to test to see if plug-ins have anything to do with the slow bounce. In the bottom left corner of the Mixer, click on Mix Mode Off and choose New Mix. The new mix has no plug-ins instantiated (and you can go back to Mix Mode Off to get your plugs back). Any change in bounce speed with no plugs?

Have you tried bouncing on another machine? I just bounced a 2 track mix on my 2011 Mac Book Pro with 3 MOTU plug ins running 7.24 with a 5400 rpm spinner and it only took under
a minute for a 4 minute song.

In case you didn't know it, magicD is going to be your best source of useful info on sleuthing a problem. Ignore his suggestion(s) at your own peril (unless you like being stuck...)magicd wrote:It's easy enough to test to see if plug-ins have anything to do with the slow bounce. Re: how long to bounce to disk
Interesting session this morning. I got the new ssd from owc so I thought I'd clone the boot drive onto it as a preperatory measure before tearing the imac apart to switch it. I downloaded CCC (carbon copy cloner) and cloned the boot drive onto the new SSD using my black magic quad-bay thunderbolt unit. I then chose the new drive as the boot disk and restarted the computer from the new drive. I had to reauthorize DP but everything else seemed fine. I opened my last session and did a quick and dirty mix onto a stereo track, then bounced that track to disk. It was still bloody slow. Then I tried bouncing to a separate SSD. (I have 3 of the four bays full with 1 being my usual record to disk, the second one is an empty 500GB disk I just formatted and the third bay has the new boot disk) So I was bouncing from disk 1 to disk 2. The real speed up came when I turned off all the UAD plugins by selecting a new mix as suggested by someone on this thread though I don't see the post here anymore. The bounce was probably 10 times faster with no plugins and still faster but not as fast with just the mastering plugins on the stereo track. So UAD was the culprit after all! and not much speedup from the ssd boot disk though it might be better with the boot disk on the SATA bus once I install it. If I install it.

I suggested that back on 6/19. Did you try it then? If not, why not?

Re: how long to bounce to disk
I like to think that DP takes longer to bounce a file than some other DAWs because it's doing a better job of creating the audio. My ears are unreliable (they're attached to a human brain), but they tell me it's true.

Re: how long to bounce to disk
No I didn’t do it until today but you were absolutely right to suggest it and you had an easily performed test. Kudos and appreciations to you. I guess I didn’t think that was the problem. The UAD forum confirms this is a known problem. Thanks again!Kurt Cowling wrote:I suggested that back on 6/19. Did you try it then? If not, why not?
