fonts in DP10 are still blurred...

Post by reskatze »

Hi,
a very nice update, thanks.
But fonts are still blurred and thin in not high scaled screens. Are there any oportunities to optimize on Windows-level?
Thanks for an answer.

Yeah, I agree, the Windows version didn't get much love in the looks dept; still a second class citizen. The scaling works, but the fonts still look blurry and cruddy, just bigger. The new clips tab looks great though, for some reason...

Also, while I'm at it, the icon when in the task bar or start menu looks a little sad too. Low res and kinda janky.

Has this become any better with updates? Just moved to PC from Mac/Logic, trying to decide what DAW to use. A clean and clear GUI is pretty important...

There hasn't been an update yet, but to be honest, this hasn't really changed since at least version 9.

Yes, still an issue - small fonts look like sh*t.
And no amount of fudging with compatibility (DPI) settings seem to help. :smash:

Rather than scaling (DPI compatibility, etc.), have you tried changing the display resolution?

I had the fuzzy crappy font problem in 9 but 10 looks great (sharp/normal) on my laptop. Some of the dialog boxes are still wonky I think I might have done a tweak but I don't remember what it was. In the view menu there is also a scale option which didn't exist in 9. Also make sure clear type is turned on and adjusted- there's a visual calibration tool in the fonts settings.

Many apps have this or a similar problem in Win 10 but the Mac version is sharp on high res screens. The usual workaround is to lower the resolution on the display. Finale 26 comes to mind.

I just tried dp10 for the first time on my new screaming w10/hackintosh desktop system and can also confirm that DP10's fonts look like dogS&^t whereas on my w10 laptop they looked fine. Changing resolutions doesn't work. Messing with the clear type and scaling settings do nothing. This is a huge bummer. Its strange this issue hasn't been fixed in the decade+ that DP was released for windows. I'll try calling tech support and see if there's any fix and report back if so.

FWIW, on a 30" Apple Cinema they look fine. I also have two lowly Viewsonics (23") and have no problems with the fonts. Would selectable fonts be difficult to program in a future version? That seems kind of basic but I know squat about programming.

I called MOTU. Talked to a tech support person who seemed surprised and said he'd make a tech link, which he didn't do. I'll try them again at some point and see if I can get someone to acknowledge this issue as I'd really like to move to windows and DP is looking particularly fugly. I took two screen shots of the same project on both OSs on the same system.

http://ohmslice.net/wp-content/uploads/ ... PCDP10.png

you can see the difference at full res.
The lines of DP's fonts on the PC are fuzzy, thin and hard to read in smaller sizes. Notice wins system bar's fonts on top in win are clear.

I have a Mac Mini with with a Bootcamp Windows 10 installation which I hadn't visited in quite a while. Fired it up with DP10 and am seeing the same blurry fonts on a HP Pavilion 32" monitor (2560x1440). The MacOS side is pristine. You can tell there's some issue right off because the DP version number on the DP banner is fuzzy. My 17" HP laptop display (4k set to HD 1920x1080) is fine so maybe something going on with older video chips, drivers, whatever on PC.
