DP10 RESOLVED: Beach ball/drag with multiple takes/tracks

Post by zoeticOne »

Has anyone experienced the phenomena in DP10 when you record multiple takes over several tracks, the overall system begins to drag (cursor beach ball)? In some instances, I had to completely delete the tracks (mostly MIDI) or the takes to restore stability. In one particular project, it simply will not load in DP10 (crashes the application) but loads perfectly fine in DP9.52.

I experienced this right out the gate but didn’t report because I thought it was something I may have done incorrectly. However, after reinstallations, load options, plug-in safe mode, disabling the audio system, disabling the immediate background processing, relocating the project file, and multiple experiments, I’m lost. So, I reached out to MOTU Tech (which I have not had to do in 10+ years) and sent them the project file. The file opened fine on their end and they sent it back to me modified (I’m assuming because it was renamed) and it still crashes DP10 but opens just fine in DP9.52. I think I’ve stumped them since I have not heard back from my tech since 4/12!

Seeing that a large group of you compose for movies & such or may do a lot of comping, has anyone experiencing this or any have any ideas to try?

I hadn't noticed that. I do many takes in the initial composing process (sometimes as many as 40 long piano solo takes on a track) with many tracks (maybe 60-100 on average). The tracks themselves rarely overlap much if at all in the timeline, but again, each track can have a lot of takes and I'm not seeing a slowdown at all.

Thanks for your input, MLC. I don't do as many tracks or takes but they do overlap in the timeline. However, I could understand and say that maybe DP10 is actually processing them in the background and my Mac isn't powerful enough for that many takes all occurring at the same time. But it's primarily MIDI info and I'm talking 10 tracks at most ever with maybe 2 or three takes each. :smash:

I should have clarified... ALL my data is MIDI data. By the time I'm bouncing to audio my MIDI stuff is 99% done.

Is it all projects? You might start a new project and LOAD one of the chunks in question and see if it does the same thing.
